Job Description

We're seeking a Sr Operational Development Trainer for a FTE opportunity located in Baltimore, MD.  Preference to be Certified or Credentialed in Epic ADT and/or Epic HB/SBO.


Position Summary:


Reporting to the Operational Development Manager, the Senior Operational Development Trainer plays a critical role in the Patient Financial Services Department by designing and developing instructional material for instructor led and online training and development courses for operational systems. 


Other duties include, but not limited to the following:

§  Acclimating new employees to the department

§  Partnering with department leadership to develop and monitor Professional Development Plans

§  Implementing training programs that connect employee with business goals

§  Seeking development opportunities for all staff levels

§  Assisting in developing and maintaining the departments Mentoring and Career Pathways Program

§  Supporting leadership with the maintenance of departments job descriptions

§  Introducing process changes and/or payer requirement changes to existing employees

§  Assisting in development of implementation plans

§  Consulting with management and other leadership to identify and document operational processes and continuously maintaining a Standard Operating Procedure Manual for the department

§  Conducting performance audits to identify focused training needs





Requires a Baccalaureate degree in Education, a Baccalaureate degree in a health related field, or an Associate's degree and a Professional certification in Adult Learning or equivalent certification.     


Preferred Job Qualifications:

        High level of experience in adult education/training in the healthcare industry preferred

        Advanced experience in staff, management, and organization development required

        End user training experience in EPIC or other clinical/business operations information system preferred

        Experience in understanding business and/or clinical workflows related to the assigned application module preferred

        Experience in project management preferred



§  Strong knowledge of healthcare finance operations, patient accounting principles, healthcare terminology,  industry issues, with the understanding of business operations workflows and Maryland regulatory environment

§  Advanced knowledge and application of adult learning principles

§  Understanding of technical instructional design techniques and technology for instructor-led and online course development

§  High level of knowledge of training principles, curriculum development and preparation of collateral materials necessary to support a 400 + person department

§  Strong knowledge in organizational assessment to designing, developing, implementing and evaluating change management programs and organizational problem solving

§  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, with proficiency in Learning Management Systems as well as patient accounting and registration applications

§  Understanding on how to operate general office and communications equipment, including personal computers and audiovisual equipment



§  Possess the strong ability to coach, influence, facilitate, present, communicate, process development, analyze and problem solve

§  Ability to interpret Revenue Cycle workflows, processes, and terminology in order to translate information into educationally sound training content

§  Ability to incorporate policies, procedures, and specific business processing needs into information systems training

§  Ability to utilize multimedia technology and authoring tools

§  Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relations that foster optimal quality teamwork and education

§  Excellent customer service skills

§  Critical thinking and strong analytical skills to support educational implementations and facilitates staff education regarding use of business operations software applications

§  Strong organizational skills necessary to develop a training curriculum that is systematic and well planned

§  Personal attributes of patience and professionalism; must be able to relate and encourage trainees without intimidating them

§  Strong ability to manage multiple priorities

§  Ability to present complex information, using language and analogies appropriate to the audience

§  Strong leadership ability to direct others without having line management authority


Required Licensure/ Certification, etc.

BA: Required to complete and pass credentialing within 3 months of hire date in an assigned EPIC application module(s) at the completion of the Credentialed Trainer Program.  Teaching certification preferred.


AA: Required to complete and pass credentialing within 3 months of hire date in an assigned Epic application module(s) at the completion of the Credentialed Trainer Program and a Professional Certification in Adult Learning approved by the department.



Job Requirements

A minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience in adult education/training within a service industry.   Must be comfortable working with computers and be able to 'troubleshoot' on the fly as hardware or software malfunctions occur during training sessions.  Exposure to using TQI methodologies to improve and monitor processes is essential.  EPIC experience is a plus.
