Job Description

The Housing Peer Advocate is an active member in the FLACRA team providing peer support services to clients with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder. The Housing Peer Advocate will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help promote long-term recovery. The Housing Peer Advocate will also assist with the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data entry.

Tuesday - Saturday


1. Serves as an active member of the client’s treatment team, including participation in team meetings and treatment planning meetings.

2. Assists clients in the development of their recovery plan, including psychiatric advance directives and crisis planning.

3. Provides psychoeducation with a focus on illness management and peer support.

4. Implements and coordinates recovery plans for individual clients in the housing program, including evaluation, consultation, education, and follow-up services.

5. Serves as a role model for clients by sharing own recovery process and teaching effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

Provides case management, resourcing, and service collaboration for individual client’s as an extension from the Housing Case Managers services

Peer Service are provided by non clinical workers with lived experience with SUD who uses their knowledge to support the recovery goals and plan of individuals who are using drugs and/ or alcohol. Peer support services enhance treatment, are participant- centered and based on lived experience, providing services who various settings such as pre- admission (outreach and engagement) continuing care or in community services.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements include High School Diploma or GED, a lived experience, and Completion of NY state-certified peer support specialist training through OMH or OASAS Peer Support Advocate Certification.   Those without certification must be willing to obtain and will be supported in doing so by the agency.  Must be eighteen years of age or older.  Must have NY state driver license and be comfortable working in the community and assisting clients navigate crisis as part of a team.

English / Spanish a plus.   

Experience with E-Record preferred.
