Job Description

PEER ADVOCATE :  Full time position. Evenings and Weekends Required.  The Peer Advocate provides peer support services to clients with serious mental illness and or substance abuse. Under the supervision of the Program Manager the Peer Advocate  will function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for clients in outpatient and inpatient settings. The Peer Advocate performs a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. Requirements include High School Diploma or GED, Completion of NY state-certified peer support specialist training through OMH or OASAS, Peer Support Advocate Certification. Must be eighteen years of age or older.  Must have NY state driver license.

Job Requirements

Requirements include High School Diploma or GED, a lived experience, and Completion of NY state-certified peer support specialist training through OMH or OASAS Peer Support Specialist Certification.   Those without certification must be willing to obtain and will be supported in doing so by the agency.  Must be eighteen years of age or older.  Must have NY state driver license and be comfortable working in the community and assisting clients navigate crisis as part of a team.

English / Spanish a plus.   

Experience with E-Record preferred.
