Job Description

Oversee coders and conducts periodic audits of coding and documentation procedures and services performed by MFA providers.  Follows policies of CMS, AMA and commercial carriers to assure consistent quality and adherence to coding principles and documentation requirements.  Knowledgeable in Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and all other participating third-party policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education
AA, Health information technology degree and AHIMA or AAPC approved certification required RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CPC with more than 8 years of demonstrate working experience.
 
PREFERRED -BS in Health Information Management and AHIMA or AAPC approved certification required RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CPC
 
Experience         
Outpatient coding and management experience required. 2 years minimum coding management and 5 years minimum outpatient coding experience.

PREFERRED 5 years coding management and 10 years outpatient coding experience.
 
Competencies  
Possess strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner.
Must be able to follow and understand instruction and react favorably in all work situations.  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing heavy workload volumes and meet critical deadlines.  Ability to be creative in identifying issues, research resources for resolution and education.  Awareness of confidentiality of information and maintain appropriate degree of confidentiality at all times.  Knowledge of healthcare industry, physician billing and reimbursement process, IDX system and medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.  Proficiency in CPT, ICD-9 and certified in ICD-10.and HCPCS coding and reimbursement.  Extensive knowledge of Medicare’s regulations regarding teaching physicians and documentation guidelines, and other federal, state and local regulations concerning clinical documentation.  Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
