Job Description

Position Summary    
This individual will work directly with the GW Transplant Institute, representatives of the SMHS, The University and the Hospital on day-to-day operations in order to achieve the long-term evolving mission of the GW Ron and Joy Kidney Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Revise and review at least every two years, the strategic plan for the RJPKC and make recommendations to the Board
  • Discuss and plan, with the assistance of the chairman and the Medical Director of the Center, the NEXT step for the growth of the Center
  • Continue work with the GWTI and the GW MOTTEP staff on the success of the dialysis unit education program, reporting the data on the program to the Board of the RJPKC, quarterly
  • Continue work with the GWTI and GW MOTTEP staff on the regularly scheduled successful kidney screening program and reporting quarterly to the Board of the RJPKC. Data on the number of screenings, number of individuals screened, number of individuals identified as abnormal, the number of abnormal referred to GW for follow-up and the number of abnormal being treated at GW.
  • Co-ordinate efforts of the RJPKC with the GWTI Medical School, Hospital, University and Physician practice group.
  • Entering phase 2 of the program, explore new areas for research efforts by the center
  • Initiate new fund raising programs to support efforts of the nonprofit GW Ron and Joy Paul Kidney Center and its expanding research program
  • Identify the existing, currently planned and new efforts in the following areas:
  • Education of the General public about the problems of kidney disease, the waiting list for transplants (The Big Ask…Big Give type program) and the unique programs of the new GW Transplant Institute (such as the hepatitis transplant and treatment effort).
  • Education and engagement of the business community through the Board of Trade, et al, business publications, union publications as well as the costs to each business for kidney disease among their employees
  • Work closely with GW MOTTEP staff on a diverse series of outreach programs
  • Continue medical education programs with support of pharma companies as well as education programs offering CEU for dieticians and social workers with support of the hospital. These programs can not only educate medical professionals, but highlight the success and unique options that the GWTI provide for patients, throughout the metropolitan area
  • Review the need for the Patient Emergency Fund
  • Patient Education (dialysis or high GFR patients) and how to be sure that they know ALL their options.
  • Media Efforts
  • Continue work with the SMHS, University and Hospital staff on an annual media and branding campaign
  • Continue to utilize “free” media support from outlets such as the EagleBank arena, home team sports radio and the Washington Capitals hockey games sponsored by EagleBank
  • Continue to review the participation in the NBC4 health Expo with a branded message for the Center being a major priority
  • Review annually how the celebrity spokesman for the Center, James Brown’s involvement might be expanded including speaking at churches, writing to transplant recipients, utilizing his contacts with the national and local media and sports figures as well as other activities that can support the GWTI and its patient base
  • Identify 6-8 talking points to be repeated over and over and in every interview and in all information on the GWTI and the RJPKC
  • Along with the Medical Director, the chief spokesperson for the Center, the Executive Director should serve as spokesperson as required
  • Expand the social media program
  • The Budget
  • Identify and monitor the seemingly numerous areas where funding is located
  • Prepare (yearly) and monitor (quarterly) the budget of the Center and report quarterly on the expenditures of both the Center and the Hospital on outreach to the Board
  • Provide Data for potential added funding
  • Identification and creation when needed of Educational Materials
  • Other items as may be identified in the 2nd phase of this program
                                                                                                                                                                         
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Education            A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or healthcare administration or an equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary. MBA or Masters level degree preferred.
 
Experience         At least five years of experience with program development, administrative, project management, and fiscal/finance experience, preferably with medical programs or in the healthcare field. At least three years of this in a senior leadership role.  Management experience working with a team of multiple individuals.

Competencies   Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner.  Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations.  Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the MFA. Ability to input data into the computer and analyze data as requested. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to listen and communicate clearly, effectively and persuasively.
