Job Description

Position Summary

The NP will be responsible for providing care to patients who have acute or chronic musculoskeletal, neck, and low back pain. The NP/PA will responsible for direct patient care, assistance with procedures, and administrative task. The NP will work with an experienced physician who is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, and Pain Management. The NP monitors patient outcomes and initiates/participates in quality improvement activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Obtains complete medical and psychosocial histories; performs a complete physical examination.
  2. Performs evaluation and problem identification of patients.
  3. Orders relevant laboratory tests, determines medication and other necessary treatments.
  4. Performs medical and health care procedures as directed or ordered through the record, and co-signed by the responsible physician.
  5. Assumes the management of patients with acute or chronic stabilized illness under the supervision of physician.
  6. Assist in outpatient based clinical research studies.
  7. Screen patients for department clinical studies.
  8. Provides appropriate health education when appropriate.
  9. Coordinates continuing patient care between emergency room, clinics, and patient’s home.
  10. Coordinates and monitors a health maintenance program for patients.
  11. Counsels patients in general health education.
  12. Performs triage of patients.
  13. Assists with physician tasks.
  14. Completes short-term disability and other patient paperwork.
  15. Initiates the referral of patients to other departments and agencies.

Education             

A Bachelor’s degree and completion of an approved course of study as a nurse practitioner is necessary. Current D.C. licensure as a Nurse Practitioner is necessary.

Experience           

Six to eight years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience is necessary.

Supervision Received  

Functional supervision is exercised over non-professional staff.

Supervision Exercised

Supervision is received daily from attending physicians, the Chairman, and Clinical Practice Manager
