Job Description

Position Summary
The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) is a subcontractor for a government contract with ITT that provides health care services for Troop Medical Clinic (TMC) in Qatar.

The PT shall collaborate with TMC medical providers to develop and implement complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients presenting with a multiplicity of dysfunction and impairments in physical, functional and adaptive areas.

The PT shall collaborate with the Director of Health Services and TMC medical providers to plan, coordinate, and implement goal-oriented group and/or focused individual physical therapy treatment programs, selecting activities to increase or improve muscle strength, range of motion and coordination; teaches alternative or compensatory techniques for rehabilitation, reconditioning, and functional tasks regardless of physical, mental, and/or cognitive deficits.

The PT shall collaborate with TMC medical providers to design treatment plans to meet patient/clinical objectives to maximize restoration of physical and adaptive roles and functions. Incorporate psychosocial and environmental factors that contribute to the impact of injury or illness on daily functional capabilities. Utilize physical performance measures to provide objective data and outcomes with activity/task performance. Design, fabricate, or recommend adaptive equipment and/or orthotic devices to improve function.

The PT shall incorporate evaluation, treatment methods, and research trends and patterns to develop procedures, criteria, and policies to meet the emerging needs of the complex patient population. Provides oversight to the PTA as required by the state practice and consistent with recommendations of American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

Restores patient's function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy. The qualified candidate shall be able to perform a wide range of complex physical therapy duties requiring an advanced practical knowledge of physical therapy, evidence-based medicine and data collection to perform specific aspects of evaluations and interventions. Physical Therapist responsibilities include providing evaluation and therapeutic interventions to a full range of wounded, ill and injured beneficiaries with needs concerned with, but not limited to the list in the “Essential Duties Section” below:

•Meets the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
•Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and accept therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises; instructing, encouraging, and assisting patients in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily-living activities and in using assistive and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
•Evaluates effects of physical therapy treatments and fit of prosthetic and orthotic devices by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.
•Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
•Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.
•Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
•Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
•Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
•Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
•Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
•Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Physical Therapist shall utilize evaluation techniques to determine patient’s current functional level using standardized/clinically accepted measurement and evaluation tools, clinical observations, patient/staff interviews, and review of medical histories. The primary area of emphasis is on evaluation and treatment of all levels of acute and chronic neuro-musculoskeletal conditions and accompanying sequelae. Provides technical supervision of, oversight of and collaboration with the Physical therapist Assistant. EducationMaster’s Degree or Higher from an Accredited Physical Therapy Program
Current State License in Physical Therapy

Experience2-4 years working experience as a Physical Therapist in general ambulatory care setting is preferred.
Active/Unrestricted/Valid license and ability to maintain current licensure.

CompetenciesMust have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the MFA.

Reports to the Supervising Physician and Director of Health Services at the TMC, Camp As Sayliyah.
