Position Summary
Performs high-quality sonographic examinations, utilizing the appropriate transducers and manipulation of other technical factors. Conforms to the ALARA principle, minimizing patient exposure

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other duties may be assigned.

The sonographer will be expected to perform the following examinations: Abdominal, Appendix, Chest/Pleural, GYN (including Transvaginal), Bladder/Retroperitoneal, OB (all trimesters and Biophysical Profile), Breast, Thyroid, Thyroid Cancer, other superficial structures and Scrotal. Vascular sonographers will also perform Carotid Duplex, upper and lower extremity Venous Doppler, Renal Artery Doppler, Liver Doppler .

Gives compassionate and appropriate care of all patients within the office

Responds appropriately to emergency situations within the office, including threats to patient and staff safety

Maintains a clean, comfortable and safe work environment

Works with office manager to keep an adequate level of supplies

Responsible and careful use of equipment, notifying office manager and lead sonographer when service is required.

Consistently and accurately completes necessary paperwork, which includes worksheets, confirms patient orders, seeking order changes and clarifications with the ordering doctor’s office when necessary, confirming patient history, identity as well as exam preparations

Responsible for proficient and accurate use of computer programs, including image management (PACS), patient charging, tracking and other database programs

Regular interaction with Radiologists in the office and off-site via telephone

Assists the Radiologist in scanning and performing procedures

Practices open and responsible communication via daily interaction with office manager, lead sonographer, patient coordinators, scheduling, and referring physician offices.

Communicates with office manager and lead sonographer via text messaging and email

Maintain required sonographic credentials through CME and other appropriate opportunities.
Maintain current CPR certification.

Willingness to expand sonography knowledge and experience by learning new procedures

Participate in mentoring and instruction to sonography students enrolled in local DMS program.

High school graduation
Graduate of an accredited sonography program, and registered through the ARDMS in at least one specialty area
Certificate in ARDMS (American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) in OB/GYN is desirable

Minimum two years of experience as a diagnostic sonographer is required.

Ability to do math calculations, input data into the computer, and analyze data as requested. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; communicating in a professional manner.  Must understand vague and implicit instructions, and act favorably in all work situations.  Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.

Supervision Received
General clinical supervision is received from the Sonographer Supervisor and may receive direction from the Office Manager. Work is reviewed at least daily by physician.
