Job Description:

A surgical technologist is responsible for providing delivery of technical support services (i.e. surgical scrub, instrument processing and sterilization). Demonstrates appropriate infection control practices and promotes patient advocacy. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
 

Job Requirements

Education:
A graduate from an accredited Surgical Technician program required.

Experience:

None Specified

License and Certification:
Certification as a certified surgical technologist by the N. B. S.T.S.A. must be obtained within (6) six months of start date. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education:

A graduate from an accredited Surgical Technician program required.
Experience:
Six (6) months experience in an operating room setting.
License and Certification:
Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).

Working knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, peers, employees, physicians and managers. Ability to read and understand oral and written material and effectively communicate technical or complex information. Works efficiently and organizes time appropriately. Ability to prioritize daily work assignments. Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Demonstrates initiative in all job related activities. Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.

PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction. Ability to react and perform under strict timelines and/or emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather and interpret information from various sources. Able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
