Job Description

3M is seeking a Manufacturing Operations Manager for the Drug Delivery Systems Division located in Maplewood, MN. Job Summary: The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Operations Manager consults with leadership team to set medium- to long-term strategic direction and operating plans for a medium to large complex manufacturing operation. Interprets industry trends, customer requirements, and business objectives to define guidelines/methods for multiple disciplines within Manufacturing, such as production, quality, engineering, materials control, warehousing, maintenance, health/safety/environment, etc. Has direct responsibility for functional strategic planning, including establishing and managing budgets for one or more departments in the immediate organization. Approves assigned programs and budget deviations as well as overall resources to meet business objectives. Determines priorities, timetables and assigns resources/tasks. Accountable for the activities and results of their functional area. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Product transfer, scale-up and launch from Pilot Plant to manufacturing plant. Provides direct supervision to higher level professionals and lower level managers which include objective setting, performance management, and motivating, as well as training and coaching. Problem solving requires thorough understanding of operating unit policies and practices. Applies knowledge of different techniques and practices to achieve desired results. Problems might be unique. Utilizes resources across work areas, departments and businesses to create solutions. Most complex problem solving may require determining solutions for problems that may require in-depth interpretation and analysis for significantly different situations. Resolves issues and conflicts related to direct reports. Develops manufacturing strategies in conjunction with fellow business leaders to ensure achievement of business objectives Adjusts manufacturing strategies to meet changing market conditions for a medium to large sized manufacturing operation Implements manufacturing standards and defines guidelines for assigned manufacturing disciplines such as engineering, production, quality, etc. Forecasts facility and headcount requirements Typically communicates with managers, functional leaders, area/business leaders, and direct subordinates. May interact with key external clients. Basic Qualifications: Bachelors degree or higher in an engineering or science discipline from an accredited university Plant Manager experience Minimum of seven (7) combined years of manufacturing and/or engineering experience Preferred Qualifications: Previous engineering experience in an FDA regulated facility LSS Black Belt certification Location: Maplewood Travel: May include up to 25% domestic/international Relocation: Is not authorized
