Job Description

Summary:   The Benefits & Total Rewards Analyst position provides strategic, operational and fiduciary oversight of Heartland Alliance’s employee services and benefits functions.  Responsible for support of Total Rewards (Benefits, Compensation and Employee Resources), HR Systems and HRIS process improvement efforts.  This position works closely with the Employee Services and Workforce Development team.  Responsible for a full-spectrum of administrative support, including administrating employee changes, benefits processing, orientation, workers compensation administration, and other critical service functions for managers and employees.  Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with management all benefits programs, including health and welfare, retirement, executive benefits, rewards and recognition

  • Processes Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other leave requests, ADA case coordination and disability applications in accord with organizational policies and government regulations.Maintains contact with employees during approved leaves as appropriate. Provides timely notices and applies Heartland policy to leave requests and timeline.

  • Administers the Workers’ Compensation Program and organizational OSHA logs, provides recommendations on loss control strategies, instructs staff on workers’ compensation issues, and ensures compliance to applicable laws and regulations while maintaining a high level of customer service.

  • Presents during orientation sessions, explaining to new employees what benefits the Organization offers and when their benefits become effective.

  • Audits benefit plans for accuracy in payroll and benefit systems.

  • Assists in the development and preparation of communications to employees about benefit programs, procedures, and any other government mandated disclosures.

  • Prepares requested reports and analysis as needed.

  • Develops compensation strategies, structures, administration, policies and practices in coordination with Head of HR

  • Provide support to HR programs, including benefits, payroll, compensation, open enrollment, employee relations and employee onboarding

  • Provide value added compensation data analysis to facilitate management and HR decision-making

  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensure compliance

  • Make recommendations to executive management for improvement of the policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters

  • Manages compliance, reporting and fiduciary activities related to and benefits compensation

  • Serves as the liaison to finance and other departments with regard to benefits, payroll and related employee resources

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field; or equivalent experience.

  • At least 3-5 years’ benefits experience in a professional setting servicing union and non-union employees.

  • Compensation experience preferred

  • Strong technical/analytical skills and the ability to manipulate data in Excel and knowledge of advanced Excel formulas and analytics.

  • FMLA administration experience required

  • Attention to detail; data entry accuracy; ability to meet deadlines; ability to troubleshoot and solve problems

  • Knowledge of HRIS systems, ADP Preferred

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Communication Skills:  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate with employees and managers regarding stressful situations and to resolve errors, issues and employee frustrations with courtesy. Demonstrated competency in public speaking and strong interpersonal skills required. 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
