Job Description

Summary: The Grants and Development Manager plays an essential role in revenue development to advance the mission, vision and strategic priorities of Heartland Human Care Services.  The position is responsible for prospect research, proposal writing, grant reporting and other duties related to strengthening financial capacity to advance the mission. This position requires critical thinking and works with limited supervision under the direction of the Chief of Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with program leadership, subject matter experts and funders to: create and implement an annual development plan; ensure alignment of funding opportunities with strategic priorities; confirm program and staff capacity to meet funding criteria and deadlines; write and submit grant competitive applications; submit funder reports; and provide technical assistance and training.
  • Provide project management to coordinate master grant calendar/planner, create project plans and ensure timely submission of high quality letters of inquiry, proposals and reports.
  • Assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
  • Gain thorough understanding of institutional history and programs, and maintain a working knowledge of strategic priorities, innovative funding opportunities and significant developments and trends in human services and poverty mitigation.
  • Partner with the Development Department to conduct prospect research that identifies funding opportunities that offer a favorable return on investment and advance strategic priorities; and support special events and campaigns to increase individual giving.
  • Liaise with Finance, Development and related departments to foster cooperative and collaborative relationships and effective information exchange.
  • Assess and propose sustainability initiatives, considering factors such as cost effectiveness, feasibility, and community acceptance.
  • Monitor changes to grant submission portals and procedures and ensure ongoing compliance with supporter requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required with an emphasis in non-profit management, fund development, public relations, technical writing, or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of successful grant writing experience and proven ability to secure government and private funding.
  • Exceptional oral and writing skills, including the ability to adapt writing style as appropriate.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Ability to analyze information, research a variety of sources (including online sources) and think innovatively to identify and resolve problems or issues.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, especially Word and Excel
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented and highly organized
