Job Description

Media and Research Associate for Improving Juvenile Justice and Advancing the Human Rights of Adolescents project. The 24-month project is designed to strengthen legal representation and build capacity to respond to human rights violations against children and adolescents. The project seeks to improve adherence to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and other international standards, by improving academic training on juvenile justice law schools, engaging moderate religious authorities in issuing child-friendly advisory opinions, and by strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations and independent attorneys to respond to the legal and human rights needs of vulnerable children in the Middle East.

Media and Research Associate’s primary responsibility is to create and manage visual content, provide research, administrative and program assistance to HAI’s Legal Director who will conduct technical leadership through workshops, conferences and webinars. The Media and Research Associate will support in the research and development of human rights materials for workshops and trainings aimed at improving legal services for vulnerable children and adolescents. He/she will also be responsible for conducing day-to-day management of the website, providing costumer service to participants and create visual content for learning and dissemination to juvenile justice trainees in the region.

The ideal candidate is a driven and passionate professional looking to work alongside an inspiring, dynamic team of leading human rights workers. The candidate will have exceptional and detail-oriented research, visual content management and design production and management skills. S/he will embrace a collaborative, team approach to the work they do. This person has experience working in a wide range of media, research, and client support activities to contribute to innovative human rights projects that support some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the position also contributes to the development and implementation of project strategies and practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with event planning and logistics for webinars, conferences and workshops around the world.
  • Work on developing and editing educational materials for participants in our events;
  • Collect feedback and reviews through questionnaires and online survey tools such as SurveyMonkey and Google Forms and analyze participants’ satisfaction after events;
  • Prepare and translate post-training questionnaires and conduct surveys of participantsAssist program manager with preparation for workshops and conference’s agendas, materials and management
  • Assist and facilitate the creation of Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) website and update the contents of Farsi and English pages on regular basis;
  • Conduct day-to-day management of Farsi and English pages of JJC website and in coordination with HAI partners manage Arabic, Kurdish and Armenian pages of JJC website;
  • Assist with the redesign of JJC website and provide thematic pictures and animations for web designer and developer;
  • In coordination with HAI’s External Relations department, prepare a marketing plan to promote JJC website in the Middle EastProvide media content for all 5 pages of JJC website, update and upload materials on the website on regular basis;Create Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts for JJC website and update the contents on regular basis;
  • Design a booklet template for participants and assist with revision and editing of Farsi materials produced for the booklets;
  • In coordination with HAI’s External Relations department, produce educational animation videos on child rights for JJC website;
  • Assist HAI’s participants with creating Farsi photo and video storytelling to upload on Farsi page of JJC website;
  • Assist HAI’s Communication Officer with video editing and storytelling projects as well as Newsletters to highlight field updates and success stories;
  • Assist and facilitate the development of a virtual center for learning and dissemination of juvenile justice training, advocacy and research, intended to create a network of law schools that collaborate over medium to long term on sharing curricula, training materials, and expertise on juvenile justice and the rights of the child
  • Conduct thematic research on the rights of the child and child protection in the Middle East and provide Farsi materials for JJC website;
  • Assist with programmatic, research, and administrative needs for conducting workshops and coordinating with partners in Armenia, Iraq and Canada;
  • Assist in the research and development of human rights materials for trainings and workshops;
  • Translate materials (curricula, webinars and practice guidelines) from English into Farsi and vice versa produced by the project;
  • Provide regular administrative and research support to the Legal Director including preparation and review of internal and external documents, organization of materials and information, and support with ad-hoc requests.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Commitment to international human rights, especially in the Middle East region

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Photo Journalism, Human Rights/Social Justice, Multicultural Communication, or related field; and 2-3 years of related research or experience in client support and website and content management 

  • Knowledge of and interest in the protection of vulnerable populations in the Middle East

  • Experience in desk and/or field researchExperience writing and editing high-level documents, presentations, and curricula

  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft products.Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

  • Excellent technology skills and proficient in graphics or photo imaging software— Adobe Systems Adobe Photoshop; Adobe Systems Adobe Photoshop Lightroom

  • Excellent technology skills and proficient in video creation and editing software—Adobe Premiere; Apple Final Cut Pro

  • Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and perform works of photo and video and visual arts
