Supervisor - English Language Training

Summary:  This position provides functional/operational supervision to the adult education programs of Refugee and Immigrant Community Services while continuing to provide direct instruction in order to model innovation and best practices. Individual accountability and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and plans Adult Education services, including but not limited to, English language Acquisition, Adult Basic Education, Citizenship, and Family Literacy for the immigrant and refugee community at a community/based school  
  • Plans and executes registration for adult education classes
  • Coordinates volunteer literacy program
  • Coordinates data entry and file management
  • Maintains contract compliance and assists in grant reporting
  • Handles facilities issues for school on an as needed basis
  • Provides direct instruction to participants
  • Observes instructors and coaches them on best practices in adult education
  • Holds regular team meetings and conducts monthly supervision with supervisees
  • Represents Heartland Human Care Services on coalitions, councils and with external partners
  • Coordinates professional development for teaching staff
  • Supervises curricula and instruction. Provides guidance and support to staff in the development of the program.
  • Ensures the implementation of organization and program/department policies and procedures. (e.g. personnel, financial, participant eligibility, Standards of Professional Conduct, Ethics, HIPAA etc.)
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring, discipline, termination and other relevant employment transactions, with guidance from higher level Manager(s).
  • Keeps abreast of best practices in the field of adult education, human services and other relevant fields
  • Ensure resources are available to support program staff, volunteers in assisting participants including referrals, follow-ups and advocacy needs.
  • Participates in budget development and/or grant writing for the program as requested.
  • Adheres to professional standards as outlined by governmental bodies, private funding sources and professional associations.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelors degree is required and experience in the supervision or coordination of instructors is preferred.  May give credit towards years of experience if attained a degree higher than a Bachelor’s Degree.

Language Skills: Fluency in a second language may be required.
