Volunteer Coordinator

Life matters at Houston Hospice. Our teams of Doctors, Nurses, Counselors, Social Workers, Chaplains and Volunteers provide care for the patient and the whole family. Houston Hospice utilizes a team-oriented approach to medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support that is tailored to each patient’s unique situation. We believe no one should live in pain or in fear of being alone. We also advocate for children’s rights to have their lives celebrated as full and complete.

Responsible for the supervision of Volunteer Services at assigned site(s), the Voluntter Coordinator would  assists the Manager of Volunteers in  planning, implementing and evaluating volunteer activity within the organization and administering the ongoing development of the volunteer program.  He/She would be responsible for maintaining an active volunteer staff sufficient to provide administrative or direct client care hours that are at least 5% of the total client care hours of paid employees.

Job Requirements

Volunteer Coordinator

  • Post high school education
  • Two years experience in Volunteer Management preferred.
  • Minimum one-year work or volunteer experience, in health care or social services/hospice preferred.
  • Experience with volunteer groups as a volunteer.
  • Participation in community programs.
  • Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational skills to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Understanding of hospice philosophy of care.
  • Ability to accommodate multi-faith beliefs and cultural backgrounds of patients/families.
  • Must have reliable, insured vehicle and Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to travel to multi-work locations during workday and evening as needed.
  • Knowledge/proficiency in applicable Federal/State laws governing hospice licensure.
