Position Summary
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Field Application Engineer to join our North American Sales Team. This position is responsible for supporting Instron’s range of advanced materials testing systems and accessories. Our customers use Instron’s products to test a wide range of materials such as metals, plastics and composites within a diverse range of industries including biomedical, aerospace, electronics and automotive. Our systems can be found in quality control, research and development and educational laboratories throughout the world. In this role you will spend at least a year at our global headquarters in the greater Boston area, working closely with the Inside Sales Group and Applications Laboratory to learn the operation and applications of our products. During this time you will conduct sample testing for customers, provide onsite product demonstrations and gain valuable experience in applications consulting, sales support, and business development. This position will share accountability for a sales target with an experienced field sales engineer within a growth territory.  Ultimately this experience will prepare you to take full responsibility for a sales territory within the continental United States. Travel to customer sites, technical conferences, exhibitions and seminars is estimated to be up to 50%.
 
Requirements
Successful candidates should have a technical Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. materials science or mechanical/electrical/biomedical/chemical engineering), combined with some internal or external customer-facing work experience. Additional requirements include:
  • A strong desire to learn and a passion for technology.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team and strong communication skills.
  • A positive attitude focused on understanding, anticipating and responding to the needs of our customers, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed.  Reliable and flexible.
  • A willingness and ability to relocate to a major metropolitan area anywhere in the United States upon completion of the training program.
