Job Description

ITW Shakeproof has an opening for a Production Supervisor to be responsible for leading, directing and managing activities of all Operations’ Departments on 2nd Shift at our Elgin facility. ITW Shakeproof Automotive serves all the major Automotive OEMs and their tier suppliers with metal fasteners totaling approximately $170M in revenues. Our major plants are in Elgin IL, Machesney Park, IL, Elk Grove Village, IL, Darlington WI, and Bedford Heights, OH. Our Sales Center is in Troy, MI.


  • Direct and manage Operations’ leads and all hourly employees on 2nd shift
  • Promote safety as the primary basis of our business culture and environment while maintaining Company compliance with OSHA requirements.
  • Drive safety improvement initiatives and engagement exercises with all 2nd shift employees.
  • Facilitate 2nd shift Leads’ abilities to successfully implement and conduct Group safety initiatives.
  • Lead Continuous improvement projects and problem-solving activities in accordance with quality goals and metrics.
  • Ensure standardized work and guide training initiatives for team members in all Operations’ Departments.
  • Perform layered process audits and ensure audits performed to schedule by all assigned parties.
  • Work with the Shipping, Receiving, Sorting and Manufacturing Supervisors/Managers/Leads and Operations team to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Act as lead accountability Manager for meeting or exceeding business targets on 2nd  shift (KPI’s)
  • Collaborate, participate in scheduling and production/shipping planning.
  • Communicate with the production control, customer service, and management teams the status of part completion.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, or problems.
  • Maintain inventory of shipping material and supplies.
  • Complete bi- annual performance appraisals for 2nd shift employees.
  • Oversee timekeeping responsibilities for all 2nd shift employees.
  • Direct and manage 3rd shift employees working portion of 2nd shift. 
  • Lead 2nd shift team members by example in upholding and promoting ITW business and cultural values
  • Instill culture of engagement, transparency, accountability, team work and achievement with 2nd shift team.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing supervisors and production managers to set production, safety, and attendance expectations and uphold accountability in their teams
  • Identify and aid in resolving conflict related issues.
  • Communicate with first shift counterparts, Plant Manager and other Departments as required, re: daily operations and all other pertinent issues that occur during 2nd shift.
  • Develop talent to maximize effectiveness and inspire future leadership.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates, or Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 4-5 years operations experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Cold forming/Metal working/Machining experience is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience as Lead Supervisor or Shift Supervisor.
  • Preferred experience working in Automotive and or Fastener production background.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents. (blue prints)
  • Excellent overall leadership and communication skills.
  • Above average mathematical ability
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to manage ambiguous scenarios.
  • Ability to work as part of a fast-paced, shared risk, positive culture team.
  • Basic computer proficiency
