New Product Development Intern

This position will be responsible for one of two New Product Development Projects based on the individual’s degree program. Project descriptions below. Either Internship will begin in the summer and is projected to last about 6 months.

We understand that this internship will extend into the fall quarter and as such you will have to balance both school and this internship. We want to be as flexible as we can to make your school and internship schedules work together. During the fall quarter, our desire is to have an intern for 10 to 15 hours/ week for 3 to 4 hours at a time during regular business hours (Monday thru Friday, 8AM to 5PM).

The 80:

-          NPD Process Flow

  • This project will involve an in-depth look within the new product development department to map and optimize current processes. Tools such as value stream mapping should be used to analyze and identify opportunities for improvement within the processes. Findings and metrics to help support simplification/optimization are to be presented to a cross-functional team throughout the duration of the internship.

-          Paperboard Packaging Assessment

  • The paperboard packaging assessment will be a comprehensive project to evaluate the paperboard specifications, suppliers, and blisters of current products purchased by the organization. Working with a cross-functional team, the individual will establish color criteria, tolerance bands, as well as geographical information based on findings. Additionally, this project will include a review of new packaging for certain items and the opportunity to develop prototypes in conjunction with the art team.

Skills and Experience Needed

-          3rd or 4th year Student majoring in one of the following:

  • Industrial Engineering
