The Technology Research Manager will oversee a diverse team of technology experts providing proper team management, mentorship, and career development. The Technology Research Manager is responsible for all aspects of Technology Investigation performed at the ITW Innovation Center, from strategic planning through project close-out, insuring exceptional project analysis and translation of research findings into clear and concise communications across diverse leadership levels. Responsibilities also include keeping abreast of new technology developments relevant to ITW.

In addition, the Technology Research Manager will be the subject matter expert for electrical and electronics engineering, keeping current with the latest technology developments and reaching out to internal and external networks, as needed, to insure subject matter expertise is maintained. In this capacity the Technology Research Manager will engage directly in supporting electrical/electronics product development activities within ITW divisions, bringing a broad understanding of electrical engineering and product development to bear.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manager responsible for Technology Team projects and resources
  • Subject matter expert with practical experience in electrical engineering
  • Ability to evaluate technologies in their subject area
  • Ability to articulate to a broad range of constituents via written and verbal communication
  • Scope/define project and manage 3rd party research resources with deep technical knowledge
  • Ability to evaluate and incubate new technologies and distill and simplify technology research into actionable strategic information
  • Support technology evaluation in knowledge areas for acquisition support and technology landscaping

 REQUIREMENTS:                                                                 

  • Minimum M.S., Preferred PhD in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience in practical engineering/scientific discipline
  • Up to 15% travel required

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAITS:

  • Proven track record of technical leadership in a technology-based corporation preferred
  • Broad Electrical Engineering knowledge in design, DFMEA/PFMEA, Root Cause Analysis, and production
  • Knowledgeable of new and emerging research/technology in their subject area
  • Intellectually curious with a driving interest in new technology
