Job Description

JDR’s design department is comprised of a number of teams serving different parts of the business and taking responsibility for different product lines. The design department provides detailed Engineering Design and Technical support associated with Umbilical/Cable design and termination hardware solutions to meet the customer requirements in the Oil and Gas and Renewable Energy markets commensurate with relevant national and international standards.

We require positive and enthusiastic Senior Design Engineers, on a permanent basis, with a ‘can do’ attitude to deal with the design and costing of umbilical cable solutions that meet customer requirements. This includes all umbilicals and terminations for products supplied by JDR. The role of a Senior Design Engineer is to represent as a technical specialist of JDR’s product lines both on renewable and Oil and gas product.

Main duties include:

  • Ensuring full compliance, during all engineering and related activities, with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Producing economic engineered solutions, considering all aspects from materials to manufacturability, whilst satisfying all customer and internal requirements. Liaise with suppliers on technical and engineering matters. Ensure knowledge of industry developments is kept up to date.
  • Generating, checking and authorising designs, reports, instructions, procedures, specifications, calculations, and drawings, to ensure a high level of accuracy and credibility in the documents supplied by the design department.
  • Liaising with clients and suppliers, and attendance at project meetings. Often expected to work to tight timescales and can be called into meetings at short notice to ensure any technical queries are dealt with in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Providing technical support to other departments, and providing training and coaching of other members of the design team to ensure high standards of technical competence. Including the assistance of other teams and engineers at times of peak work activity where requested
  • Providing technical support for issues within the factory for manufacturing/design including authorisation of DCR’s and NCR’s to ensure alignment with Plant capability.
  • Actively pursuing the development of new products from conceptual design through to manufacture and ensure development and improvement of existing products and services.
  • Making key technical decisions within competence, deputising for Team Leader in their absence and where instructed to and competent to do so.

Job Requirements

As a suitable candidate, you will hold a technical qualification in either a mechanical/electrical discipline and demonstrate clear evidence of a significant level of technical competence, responsibility and professional conduct.

You will be a candidate who can communicate openly and well to ensure that any design issues are dealt with efficiently and effectively, ensuring a high level of accuracy is present in all design output.

Accuracy and attention to detail must be a particular strength as you will be writing and reviewing procedures and processes on an on-going basis.
