ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ ΘΕΣΗΣ ΕΡΓΑΣΙΑΣ

We are looking for passionate, multi-talented IT professionals with technology, design and business backgrounds, as well as a great propensity for creative problem solving. Joining our local Scrum teams based in Athens, the successful candidate will work closely with domestic and international development teams.

The role

The Application Support Engineer is a vital part of the Support service, and you will be working alongside other engineers within the team and also a diverse mix of software developers, QA engineers and DevOps Engineers in other departments. You will be responsible for operating, monitoring, deploying, and supporting the infrastructure, systems and processes used to run the lottery platform.

Role expectations

  • Work with the Release Manager, DevOps Engineers and other Application Support Engineers to support Camelot LS's iLottery platforms
  • Play a crucial role in operating the platform for multiple customers, both in pre- and post-live settings
  • Proactively ensure the platform runs efficiently and within capacity parameters
  • Provide investigation into platform issues which include software defects, performance issues, system outages, security incidents etc
  • Be part of an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours platform support
  • Improve monitoring and alerting solutions for the platform
  • Work with our globally distributed development teams to help build and deliver software to multiple clients
  • Keep stakeholders, including customers and exec team, up-to-date about high priority/impact issues, escalating timely and appropriately
  • Developing and optimising internal tools and processes
  • Provide excellent customer service to all our customers


Requirements

Technical skills

Extended experience and a demonstrable, in-depth knowledge in most of the following areas:

  • Linux, terminal and command line tools
  • Relational databases and SQL (both theoretical and practical)
  • Network protocols, HTTP/HTTPS and SSH are a must
  • Scripting skills (Bash, Python, Perl, Go)

Experience and at a minimum some basic understanding in the following areas:

  • Running distributed, loosely coupled web applications
  • Running and troubleshooting software written in Java and gathering JVM insights for troubleshooting, tuning
  • Linux Containers, Docker and associated ecosystem of tools
  • Restful APIs
  • JSON and XML formats
  • Industry standard tools and technologies like Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Graylog, Grafana, Kibana or similar

Useful to Have

  • JAVA programming background
  • Web development background, HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Working with Atlassian JIRA and/or Service Desk
  • Terraform experience
  • AWS experience
  • Operational experience with Postgres and Apache Cassandra
  • Kubernetes
  • Ansible, puppet
  • VMWare vSphere experience
  • Jenkins CI (especial focus on pipeline feature), the ability to program pipelines in Groovy

General and soft skills

  • Excellent problem solving and investigative skills
  • Experience of working in a DevOps environment, with familiarity in software development and infrastructure
  • Experience of working as a member of a technical team
  • Experience in analysing application logs, database information and application metrics
  • Experience running software in a production environment
  • Experience working in a role involving day-to-day customer interactions
  • Excellent English language skills
