Job Summary:


Serves as an experienced subject matter leader that promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Provide leadership, clinical and financial direction for all aspects of Developmental and Rehabilitative Service including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Infant Development, and Child Life service. Ensure the delivery of quality of care in accordance of regulation and represents the Department for all Hospital, community, and professional matters.


Department Management /Administration

  • Provides effective leadership to a multidisciplinary staff comprised of licensed therapists, assistants, and unlicensed auxiliary staff
  • Works effectively with the leadership team, develops positive interdepartmental communications and participates in facility meetings
  • Primary liaison and mentor for the Rehab/Child Life departments with 24 hour accountability of daily operations
  • Ensures that all activities of department and sections are in compliance with Joint Commission, Hospital/Federal/State regulations, professional regulations, credentialing and licensing requirements
  • Establishes and ensures standards for quality, safety, and service.
  • Develops and monitors financial performance of the and effectively seeks methods to evaluate and manage productivity of the departments including assuring resources are allocated appropriately.
  • Creates, implements, and evaluates departmental strategic plans and aligns them with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge of rehabilitation services and maintains a membership to a professional organization
  • Develops policies, procedures and necessary competencies consistent with evidence based practice and regulations.
  • Creates and environment of learning by actively participating and promoting professional development of staff while maintaining current skill and knowledge of their own discipline.
  • Partners with referring schools to coordinates student/intern programs as well as fostering relationships for future recruitment.
  • In collaboration with the section chiefs, develops and implements departmental specific goals and strategic plans.
  • Responsible for all department employee relations including recruitment, retention, timely performance appraisals, and/or discipline and assures regular scheduled staff meetings.
  • Facilitates and supervises activities in the Child life department including community groups, external special events, and internal hospital based programs.
  • Evaluates and manages department equipment and supplies, identifies needs for new equipment and appropriately plans for obtaining or replacing equipment through the capital budget process.

Program Development/Refinement

  • Identifies, develops, implements and evaluates present and future rehabilitation/child life programs in collaboration with other departments.
  • Benchmarks potential marketable programs consistent with the industry
  • Works in collaboration with the development office to identify grants or other funding opportunities for Rehabilitation, Infant Development, and Child Life services.

Evaluation and treatment of patients

  • Performs evaluations of patients using appropriate standardized tests and demonstrates sound clinical judgement
  • Interprets referrals and resolve issues with referral sources and stays current on the latest guidelines specific to the referral process.
  • Assures new patient referrals meets inpatient rehab payer specific criteria prior to admission
  • Documents patient care following Department standards for content, format and timeliness\
  • Recommends additional referrals for families as necessary
  • Collaborates with outside vendors to assure available patient DME

Performance Improvement

  • Develops departmental Performance Improvement Plans.
  • Implements measures to maximize the patient experience
  • Leads documentation reviews to include peer review audits
  • Provides regular feedback to staff regarding audit findings

Job Requirements

What we need from you:

  • Master’s Degree in Rehabilitative Service required
  • 5 years Pediatrics experience & 3 years Supervisory experience required
  • Current Illinois licensure required
  • Certifcation from National Association preferred
  • CPR required: American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
