Job Overview:
Responsible for all technical consultation in the E/E component development and launch process for the Sprinter and Metris for the North American market with the major focus on:
  • Support change- and release-management incl. deviation processes
  • Guide, supervise and lead complex failure analysis process for different vehicle systems.
  • Developing and reviewing concepts for components with a variety of functions.
  • Technical supervision of R&D service providers and suppliers in relation to parts which are being localized in North America.
Electric / Electronic development:
  • Coordinating and being responsible for overall E/E activities such as development and diagnostic.
  • Supporting the development in steering, organizing and conducting NAFTA market specific project reviews and maturity assessment.
  • Developing contributions on a component level to specification sheets. Specifying NAFTA requirements for design, performance and durability of components and systems.
  • Technical supervision of local suppliers and development service providers in relation to parts which are being localized in North America. Supporting cross functional project members through answering technical questions. Date and milestone tracking by means of the overall vehicle plan.
  • Ensuring functional suitability and feasibility of the modules, and systems within the plant processes.
  • Coordinate with R&D departments and lead plants regarding feature roll out and release management with the scope on the local plant
  • Track and coordinate change- and release-management with adjoining departments (engineering, production and quality)
  • Coordinate complex diagnostic- and troubleshooting workshops during initial startup process for components, digital networks and telematics-/powertrain control units.
  • Planning complex and extensive trials of systems and modules.
  • Analyze and check software functions and coding for different network units.
  • Validate and provide diagnostic- and measurement equipment for the department
  • Support designing solutions, within the scope of predetermined concepts, for components and modules, taking project guidelines (e.g. safety, quality, costs, weights and dates) into consideration
  • E/E - Engineering Support: Close and proactive coordinating with adjoining departments such as assembly planning, logistics, quality and service provider.
  • E/E - Upfitter Engineering Support: Provide Engineering and Technical Support to the Upfitters (and product management) regarding technical questions, retrofit of options under consideration of applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Use technical knowledge to provide engineering support on current and future products and options. Support Product Management and Upfitter Management specifying vehicle application packages for Upfitters.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  3-5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of Daimler internal processes in a plus
  • In depth knowledge and work experience of electronic/electric components and E/E topology
  • Proficient in Daimler fundamental systems: ISVisu, Engineering Client, Dialog, ACM
  • Experience in the field of telematics and digital networks(development, production or service)
  • Practice in handling common calibration, measurement and diagnostic tools (ETAS - INCA, Ecoute, Monaco, Zuken, etc.), ideally knowledge of functional development, coding and application of engine and transmission controllers
  • Experience in cross-functional projects, steering and contracting external development partners
  • Ability to mechatronic thinking, troubleshooting and an analytical and structured work approach
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Preferred fluency of German language, desirable knowledge of Spanish
  • Analytical thinking, assertiveness and communication skills, capacity for teamwork. Strong commitment and flexibility

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is a plant in Ladson, South Carolina that produces Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner. The midsize Mercedes-Benz Metris vans are also reassembled at this location.
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC invested 500 million U.S. dollars in the construction of a new Sprinter production plant in addition to an expansion of the previous assembly operations. In September 2018, MBV officially opened its new plant, located next to existing operations in the North Charleston area. The MBV facility will provide up to 1,300 jobs by the end of the decade and is expected to create at least 600 additional jobs in the region through its suppliers.
More than 130,000 Sprinters have been assembled in North Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the second largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany.
