Job Title: Registered Nurse (Associates or Bachelor's) Overview of Responsibilities:

The majority of the role is going to be phone triage and patient education. Triage is important because they will be determining whether the patient needs to go to the ER, treat at home, or schedule an appointment with their doctor.

It is a fast paced environment, the clinic has around 30+ patients daily. A lot of sit down and education. Once patients complete appointment, the nurses spend 20-30 minutes with each patient. The patient population is mainly geriatric. Educating patients is important in this role. Mainly looking for someone that has experience with phone triage. Patients call into clinic frequently, you will need to be able to know if they can be treated at home or if the patients need to go to the hospital.

Responsibilites when it comes to education:

Delegate responsibilities to support staff and focus on patient education.

Learn what the patient already knows and dispel misinformation.

Provide patient information in the simplest way possible, using visual aids when applicable.

Ask patients and family members to learn important medical information or steps to treatment.

Question the patient's understanding of the care and its necessity.

Make sure patients understand the importance of all medications and how and why to refill them properly.

Involve patients from the very first treatment to reinforce learning.

Educate patients and family members about the signs and symptoms that indicate a worsening condition.

Responsibilities when it comes to triage:

Accept telephone calls from patients with varying levels of acuity and types of medical concerns

Promote clear and coherent verbal communication following an appropriate line of questioning

Assess clients based on the patient's own evaluation, concerns, and responses to questions.

Make medical appointments and referrals to physicians, community resources, specialists, or other agencies.

Create a nursing care plan with appropriate follow-up steps.

Utilize electronic charting to access patient records remotely and to review a database of possible conditions, relatable signs and symptoms, and evidence-based treatments.

Determine the necessary follow-up for medical diagnoses and symptoms over the phone.

Provide clear patient information, thorough patient education, and recommendations for the next steps to take.

Evaluate the significance of the patient's concern over the form, determine if emergency care is needed, if a medical appointment should be made, or if the concern should be reported to the appropriate physician.

Must-Have Skills/Qualifications:

  • 1.5 years Nursing experience (outpatient preferred)
  • Associates Degree or BSN
