Overview:

The Safety Engineer will be responsible for supporting the District Executive Managers and the Director of Risk Management and Safety on all Huen safety initiatives for the region. The position functions will include identifying work site hazard control solutions, safety training, accident investigations for root cause determination, claims management functions for workers compensation, examining and updating Huen safety policies and procedures as needed, conducting new hire safety orientations and promoting the Huen safety culture.

Functions:

  • Shall report directly to the Vice President, Director of Risk Management and Safety and will be responsible for the following activities:
  • Coordinating activities with the Vice President, Risk Management and Safety.
  • Ensuring safety responsibilities are communicated to the New Jersey and New York District Executive Management and Persons-In-Charge.
  • Support, monitor and provide guidance to Districts personnel for the effective implementation of the Company Safety Management System and Company Training.
  • Coordinating and monitoring implementation of Project Managers’ and Foremen’s safety responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and provide support for all Safety Personnel activities.
  • Act as a liaison between management, outside safety agencies/organizations, and insurance broker and carrier.
  • Provide feedback to District Executive Managers and the Vice President, Risk Management and Safety on the safety performance of Foremen and field personnel.
  • Working in conjunction with the District Managers and the Vice President, Risk Management and Safety, to provide continuing safety education for office and field personnel.
  • Coordinate, monitor and provide technical support for District Executive Management personnel.
  • Auditing and verifying that corrective measures are completed in a timely manner for hazards identified.
  • Reviewing all injury and illness investigation reports and verify corrective actions have been completed.
  • Be involved when needed/requested during accident investigations.
  • Coordinating with the Vice President, Risk Management and Safety in the development, implementation and monitoring of safety management systems.
  • Monitoring field audits, including quarterly comprehensive reviews of all OSHA 300 logs.
  • Serving as a technical resource for Safety, Health and Environmental issues.
  • Where applicable be currently certified to train employees or teach courses (i.e., LOTO, NFPA 70E, HAZWOPER, Confined Space in Construction, Silica Dust Awareness and Controls, GHS Hazard Communication, Safety Leadership, CPR, First Aid, OSHA 10 & 30 Hour).
  • Review Safety Person-In-Charge Status Reports, Interventions, Stop Work Authorizations and Job Site Safety Reviews (JSSR).
  • Conducting periodic job site visits with District Executive Management Personnel and Vice President, Risk Management and Safety.
  • Develop, review and audit Safety Personnel training capabilities and identify professional development courses/seminars to enhance Safety Person-In-Charge effectiveness.
  • Attend and lead the monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Attend periodic personal development safety training.
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

The essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company designated office or field location.

Experience within the electrical construction industry working commercial, industrial, and transportation projects is essential to the success of this role.

Job Requirements

Safety Engineer Skills/Qualifications:

Experience working with electrical commercial and industrial projects required.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in construction safety management or environmental health and safety or equivalent experience
  • Electrical construction 
  • Construction Industry OSHA 30 and OSHA 500
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification
  • Proficient in electrical hazard controls and NFPA 70E 
  • Accomplished with Outlook, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
