Job Description

Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. a subsidiary of MYR Group Inc., one of the oldest and largest specialty contractors in the country, has immediate opportunities for Senior Data Technicians.

 
Senior Data Technician Duties:

Proven abilities to lead a crew of up to ten Technicians and ensure maximum efficiency and productivity. A Senior Technician shall be able to perform all tasks required for installation of a complete structured cabling system in a new or existing construction environment. A complete cabling system shall include (but not limited to); Category Se, Category 6, Category 6a, and fiber optic horizontal cabling, copper I fiber optic distribution backbone cabling, pathways I cable support systems, equipment rack I cabinet, cross­ connect blocks I patch panels, security I CCTV I MATV devices. A working knowledge of BICSI practices, TIA I EIA installation standards, and NEC Codes.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Read and understand all construction trade blueprints and industry symbols.
  • Understand and install cable pathway per current specifications.
  • Lead a crew of up to 10 technicians.
  • Proven knowledge and abilities of installation practices for Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6a, coax, fiber optic, CATV, MATV, Central  Office, Data Center,  outside plant construction and Test Equipment.
  • Proficient  with  installation  and  termination  of single mode  and multimode
    fiber  optic  cable,  to  include  ST,  SC,  LC,  MTRJ  connectors  of  at  least  3 manufacturers (Coming, AFL, Avaya, 3M, Hubbell, Nordx, etc.)
  • Must be able to extend circuits (T-1, ISDN, DSL, PBX, Key System, LAN) at a customer premise location and be able to troubleshoot these circuits effectively.
  • Can install and test Security/CCTV system devices.
  • Familiar with installation of DS3, DSI , DS-0, OC-48 circuits.
  • Current BICSI Certified Technician Certificate or proven work experience.
  • Certificates in at least 3 manufacturer installation procedures.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Keep work areas in a safe and clean condition.
  • Proficient in installations of OM2, OM3, OM4 and fiber cables per industry standards
  • Terminate optical fiber strands with fiber optic connector
  • Set-up and operate a fusion splicer for splicing inside optical fiber.
  • Test installed work with commonly required testing apparatus, such as Fluke
    DTX-1800.

Job Requirements

Senior Data Technician Requirements:

  • Current BICSI Certified Technician or proven work experience.
  • Certificates in at least five industry specified manufacturers training courses.
  • Familiar with Category Se, Category 6, Category 6a, coax and Test Equipment.

Wage is commensurate with experience.
