In your role as the Director of Finance at North Star Air Ltd. (NSA), you will be accountable for all finance and accounting functions. This position allows the unique opportunity to provide value-added financial reporting and analysis that will meet internal and external stakeholder requirements and support the business growth and strategic initiatives of the company. In this role, you will be a member of the North Star Air senior management team and will be located in Thunder Bay, Ontario. NSA is a rapidly growing cargo, charter, and passenger airline that serves more than 50 remote communities in northern Canada.

Your Role:

• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
• Analyze key performance indicators, operational and financial results on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis and provide value-added analysis and advice to aid in decision making;
• Develop efficient and effective systems of internal control to safeguard assets and produce accurate and reliable financial information and monitors compliance with these controls;
• Research airline industry financial and management reporting best-practices and develop key performance indicators and reports to meet the requirements of the business;
• Oversee the development of an annual budget, capital budget and multi-year financial plan in alignment with NSAs strategic plan;
• Maintain current knowledge of IFRS, research accounting policies and make recommendations on their adoption and implementation to the EVP CFO;
• Work with the senior leadership team to identify potential opportunities for revenue generation and/or cost saving within the Company;
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to streamline accounting processes costs while maintaining internal control requirements;
• Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to staff in support of achieving company goals and objectives;
• Assist in preparing regulatory reports and participate in special projects as well as key initiatives as required; and
• In addition to the above, this role is accountable for the following functions:

• Accounts receivable
• Accounts payable
• Capital assets
• Treasury management
• Financial and management accounting and reporting
• Payroll

Desired Skills Experience:

• University degree, preferably in Business;
• Professional accounting designation combined with 5 to 7 years progressive experience is preferred;
• In-depth understanding of all aspects of financial and management accounting including financial reporting, budgeting, capital budgeting, cash flow projections, and internal controls is an asset;
• Good working knowledge of computerized financial systems and Microsoft Word and Excel;
• Experience in the Aviation industry is beneficial;
• Highly self-motivated, enterprising and result-oriented with a passion for delivering high-quality work;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work and meet deadlines;
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to coach and mentor employees; and
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with team members and other internal stakeholders.
