As Manager, Special Ship at The North West Company (NWC) you will develop and implement the special ship processes as they relate to the project planning and coordination of a team to accurately plan, prepare and execute specific orders for food and general merchandise for each special ship season. You will utilize forward thinking into seasonal and special ship promotions to maximize profitability in stores while reducing the cost of goods. In your role you will partner in with departments such as Operations, Marketing as well as Logistics Distribution to determine future market specific needs and maximize the movement of goods for the special ship season.

Your Role:

• Lead a team for the project lifecycle in each special ship season;
• Manage the project plan, including: timelines, inputs, resource constraints, and communication;
• Determine and adhere to the timelines required for each special ship seasons orders. Liaise with Operations, Procurement Marketing, Distribution, Logistics, Pricing, Order Management, and Replenishment teams. Maintain special ship store schedules;
• Support and improve data integrity for order forecasting and writing. Maintain and update forecast models, measure accuracy; adjust as business needs change;
• Make recommendations for process improvements to contribute to the reduction of forecast error and bias;
• Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model;
• Manage the data inputs into the special ship platform each season, by store;
• Audit store orders as prepared by special ship analysts;
• Coordinate the forecasting of good to vendors;
• Coordinate with the Category Manager teams on cost negotiations, providing expected volumes to assist;
• Liaise with Distribution on the timing of goods to arrive at facilities;
• Monitor the process for each special ship season, make adjustments as required; and
• Support the continued development of department members. Facilitate quarterly development meetings, provide feedback and support action planning; provide opportunities for growth.

Desired Skills Experience:

• Minimum 3 years experience in a high SKU seasonal business, including forecasting and ordering for store sales;
Experience within the fields of Logistics, Inventory or Supply Chain is preferred;
• Previous leadership ability to effectively coach and develop a high functioning team is required;
• Bachelors Degree in Commerce or a related field is preferred;
• Extensive knowledge of Grocery and General Merchandise retailing;
• Project management experience is preferred;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
• Proven organizational, planning and prioritizing skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and assignments;
• High degree of curiosity, discovery, and willingness to work through complex problems;
• Able to accomplish work independently, as well as work well within in a team;
• Must be detail conscious while maintaining a high degree of accuracy, with the demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information; and
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, coupled with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external customers.
