Clinical Nurse IV-ED (lead RN)
Part Time, FTE: 0.9; Shift Hours:1900-0730 Weekend and Holiday rotation required

Job Summary:

  1.  The CN IV is the first-line supervisor for the unit on a specific shift.
  2. This role may include, but is not limited to directing the flow of patients, monitoring care provided, managing hour to hour unit activity, acting as a clinical resource, assisting in the coordination of care between departments, evaluating staff performance, and working toward resolution of employee, physician, and patient complaints that occur on the shift.
  3. Responsible for making staff assignments, for monitoring the quality of work, the productivity and professionalism of the work group, the working relations with physicians, and employee adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines.   
  4. The CN IV may delegate care to other health care personnel consistent with their scope of practice and job description.
  5. Has the responsibility, accountability, and the authority to deliver safe, effective, excellent nursing care according to the philosophy and goals/objectives of the Department of Nursing. 
  6. Utilizing the Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring, the Relationship Based Care, and NorthBay’s professional nursing practice model assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for all patients assigned to his/her care.
  7. Makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward goals and utilizes a therapeutic professional relationship with the patient/family and interdisciplinary team to facilitate the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. 
  8. Care is provided according to the specific physiologic, developmental and psycho-social needs of the patient. 
  9. The CN IV works under the supervision of the Clinical Manager.
  10. Supports the mission, vision, values and expectation of excellence of the organization.

Education:

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of professional registered nursing, BSN highly preferred. 
  2. BSN is required by January 1, 2020 (excludes those employees grandfathered as outlined in March 2014 letter).

Licensure and Certifications:

  1. Valid, current and unencumbered RN license by the State of California. 
  2. Current AHA or AHA equivalent BLS and ACLS required.
  3. CEN, CPEN, or TCRN  preferred.
  4. Telemetry certification, Procedural Sedation certification, PALS or ENPC certification and Wound infiltration certification required within 6 months of hire
  5. TNCC or ATCN  certification required within one year of hire.
  6. Pediatric Asthma standardized procedure and Triage standardized procedure certifications within one year of employment.
  7. National certification in emergency nursing preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  1. Three years acute care experience in ED required.
  2. Demonstrates skills in the areas including but not limited to: arrhythmia interpretation, advanced patient assessment, safe utilization of medications, advanced airway management and ventilator care. 
  3. Capable of working independently. 
  4. Demonstrated leadership abilities. 
  5. Completion of ST Segment/Lead  selection class within 6 months of employment.
  6. Completion of  “A Stroke of Genius” class within one year of employment.
  7. Proficient written, verbal, and electronic communication skills in the English language.
  8. Modifies and delivers care that is specific to the special behaviors/needs of the neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient within the scope of service of the Emergency Department.  

Physical Effort: 

  1. Performs all physical duties of the job. 
  2. Requires lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and fine motor skills.
