Medical Oncology Nurse (on-call)
On Call, 0; Shift Hours: As needed
Wellness Center - Vacaville
Vacaville, CA

Job Summary:

  1. In collaboration with other cancer care providers and health team members, you will utilize oncology focused assessment skills and knowledge to coordinate and provide comprehensive care throughout the cancer disease continuum.
  2. In this role you will also be a patient advocate and educator, as well as a liaison between inpatient, outpatient and home care.
  3. Using the nursing process you will provide patient care, to include: administering infusion treatments, monitoring patients during and after treatments; assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of patients receiving treatment; assessing for any adverse reactions to treatment, evaluating patient response to treatment, and managing symptoms related to treatments as well as to the disease process.
  4. To be successful you must demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills, close attention to detail, and sensitivity and empathy in all interactions with patients and caregivers.
  5. Your role will be to assure that organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health will be met or exceeded.
  6. In addition, you will be a specialized resource for the nursing departments and Patient Care Services Division. This will be accomplished by providing education of NorthBay staff nurses in regards to caring for oncology patients, case consultation, or program services on an ongoing basis. 
  7. In all interactions you will consistently demonstrate and role model The NorthBay Way (a set of value-based behaviors that are to be  by all employees that work at NorthBay Healthcare). The NorthBay Way principles consist of Caring, Communication, Collaboration, and Competence. 


  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing,
  2. BSN required, unless grandfathered as outlined in March 2014 letter sent to employees.

Licensure and Certifications:

  1. Current, Valid and unencumbered California RN License.
  2. Current AHA BLS certification or equivalent. 
  3. Must have ONS Chemotherapy Provider Certification within 3 months of hire,
  4. National OCN certification within 3 years of hire. 

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills: 

  1. Minimum of two year’s acute care experience with oncology emphasis required.
  2. Demonstrates competence in clinical specialty (oncology), experienced in the administration of chemotherapy and biologics including the recognition and management of adverse side effects. 
  3. Demonstrates effective time management.
  4. Capable of working independently.
