Obstetrical Technician

Part Time, FTE: 0.75; Required to work weekends and every other Christmas.
NorthBay Medical Center
Fairfield, CA

The obstetrical technician (OBT) is responsible and accountable for scrubbing for all OB surgeries in Labor & Delivery.   He/she utilizes sterile technique to surgically assist physicians with such procedures as c/sections and tubal ligations.  He/she functions effectively during obstetrical emergencies. The OBT is also responsible for preparing the surgical and delivery rooms and for assisting with patient care duties as assigned.   In the absence of the unit clerk the OBT also performs unit clerk functions to include general clerical and reception duties. Works in collaboration with the entire healthcare team to provide each patient and family member excellent customer service. Supports the mission, vision, values and expectation of excellence of the organization.

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure:  Surgical Technician Certification or documented competency with 6 months experience required. Current AHA or equivalent CPR Certification required.

Experience: Previous experience as an operating room/obstetrical technician required. Prior unit clerk/secretarial experience with medical terminology preferred.   Prior experience with the delivery process and newborns preferred.

Skills: Must have knowledge of the basic concepts necessary for the performance of the duties expected of the operating room technician. Must have knowledge of medical terminology, be able to transcribe orders and perform computer order entry.

Physical Effort: Physically fit and able to perform principle duties and responsibilities of the job.  Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, kneeling, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting. 

Hours of work: Variable.

Other:  Completion of annual organizational requirements for employment.
