Patient Services Representative, Anticoagulation Clinic

Job Summary:

The Patient Service Representative will perform a combination of duties encompassing reception, scheduling, authorization, registration, charges and medical records management for the NorthBay Anticoagulation Clinic. The PSR serves as a receptionist in answering telephones, greeting patients and families, and taking messages as appropriate. Interviews the patient or his/her representative to secure accurate demographic and payer information ensuring the patient’s care is not delayed. Verifies and documents eligibility for patient’s specific payer(s).  Assures all required documentation including authorization is in the chart and the E.H.R. Schedules appointments as appropriate and coordinates necessary records. Counsels patients regarding medical insurance benefits. Files all paperwork and medical records appropriately. Maintains provider(s) schedules in accordance with policies, procedures and service expectations of the department. The Patient  Service Representative acts as a customer service liaison to the patients, department, referral sources, Insurance companies, and other departments in the NorthBay system to expedite access to the department. Prioritizes and multi-tasks as necessary.



Education:

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent required. 
  2. A minimum of 1 year of  college level education and experience in working with computer information systems and intermediate competency in various Micro Soft business suite applications (Word, Excel, PPT). 

Licensure and Certifications:

  1. Current AHA certification or equivalent in basic CPR.  Course work in medical terminology preferred.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  1. Experience with at least three of the following strongly preferred: i) appointment scheduling, ii) medical record processes, iii) referral and authorization processes, iv) registration processes.
  2. Minimum of one year experience in a medical front office setting with experience and knowledge of health insurance/ benefit requirements.
  3. Demonstrated experience in area of clinical department preferred.
  4. Strong organizational and written/spoken communication skills essential.
  5. Proficiency in practice management systems is required with CPT, ICD9 coding experience beneficial. 
  6. Ability to work independently on a variety of complex tasks, managing competing deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Word. Knowledge of medical terminology, and insurance rules and regulations preferred. 
  8. Detail oriented with typing and computer entry ability and a working knowledge of general office machines required. 
  9. Bilingual capability preferred.
