Security Officer II (full-time, FF)

Job Summary:

The Armed Security Officer is responsible for promoting a safe healthcare environment by serving as a deterrent to violent behavior and/or criminal activity through their presence and ability to respond to an incident that poses a serious threat of death or great bodily injury. The Armed Security Officer is primarily assigned to the Emergency Department and associated waiting areas. Their security and safety responsibilities extend to all medical facilities owned and/or operated by NorthBay HealthCare and individual assignments or responsibilities may be dependent on the activity, need for assistance or direction of the Security Program Director. The armed Security Officer will also prepare reports documenting their response to calls for service. Reports will contain all important facts of the incident known at the time and be neat, legible, free of spelling errors, accurate and grammatically correct. Armed Security Officers shall possess advanced communication and conflict resolution training skills before or upon the completion of their in-house training process. Flexibility with regards to scheduling is critical as demands and staffing levels may vary.


  1. Possession of a high-school diploma of graduation or equivalent

Licensure and Certification:

  1. Possession of a valid motor vehicle license and willingness to operate motor vehicles in the course of employment.
  2. A clean driving record is required evidenced by annual submittal of a DMV driving record and Human Resources.
  3. Successful completion of all State of California firearms qualification training as outlined in California Business and Professions Code Sections 7583.5, 7583.6, 7583.7 and California Code of regulations Sections 628, 631 and 632 and any other applicable laws not listed here.  All training must be completed upon date of hire.
  4. Must possess upon date of hire a California Concealed Weapons Permit.
  5. Must possess California Guard Card and Exposed to carry permit.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Previous experience in security, military or law enforcement is highly desirable.
  2. Working knowledge of PC computers and their programs.
  3. A high degree of credibility, integrity, confidentiality, and trust.
  4. Inter-personal communication, verbally and in writing with a diverse range of people including the proper handling of emotional situations and needs.
