We have an exciting opportunity in the Top Tier Credit Risk team within the Wholesale Markets Optimisation department. Responsible for supporting commercial teams entering into the largest transactions across the business, the team assesses the credit risk of hundreds of companies from high street retailers to wind turbine manufacturers, and from wholesale energy traders to residential small suppliers. We provide analysis, negotiation support and ongoing monitoring to assist with controlling and reporting the credit risk associated with these transactions.

With the role encompassing activities across Customers, Generation, New Nuclear and Corporate functions, the analyst will have the chance to work on a variety of stimulating projects that will drive the future of the energy industry, from innovative new customer offerings to multi-million-pound engineering contracts.

Previous energy industry experience is not required, just a passion for using data, analytics and commercial drive to solve complex problems as we build a low carbon and smart future energy system.



You will be responsible for:
  • Establishing the credit worthiness of companies across a wide range of sectors, using quantitative internal and external scoring techniques, along with personal qualitative judgement.
  • Setting credit limits in accordance with Credit Risk Policy, facilitating where appropriate, escalation for further approval at committee and executive level.
  • Supporting the commercial negotiation of contracts to effectively manage risks whilst remaining commercially balanced.
  • Investigating, negotiating and implementing credit mitigation in conjunction with Legal and commercial functions.
  • Presenting at the Credit Committee and Writing Exceptional Credit Limit request papers for CFO/CEO.
  • Producing efficient and insightful credit risk reporting, dynamically responding to business and market changes, and to the requirements of internal stakeholders, senior management and the group.
  • Responsible for making suggestions to the Senior Manager of Credit Risk to improve the credit risk control framework.
  • Assisting in risk reviews of new instruments, investments, hedging strategies and products in order to provide assessment of the impact on, and requirements for, credit risk management.


It is desired that you have the following for the role:
  • Academic qualification at Degree level in a numerate discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of credit risk monitoring, measuring and mitigation techniques
  • Comfortable and credible discussing technical subject matter
  • Desire and ability to deliver commercial value
  • Excellent communication, influencing and organisational skills
  • Self-starter with the capacity to innovate. Engaging, enthusiastic and motivational
  • Takes responsibility and makes decisions
  • Keen attention to detail
