Robert Half Technology have been selected to recruit a Database Administrator for a well-known business based in Birmingham City centre.

Key Responsibilities of the Database Administrator:

The Database Administrator is a subject-matter expert for all aspects related to data, and through their expertise, the design and development of the organisation's storage is shaped, and they are responsible for setting up, developing and maintaining databases within our organisation.

  • Responsible for the operational stability, performance, availability and reliability of business databases and other data structures (data warehouse, etc.)
  • Define and develop solutions for data storage and management to respond to the needs of users and monitor user access and security.
  • Monitor performance of data storage environments.
  • Map out conceptual designs for planned databases.
  • Consider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users in all designs.
  • Install and test new versions of database management systems (DBMSs).
  • Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
  • Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Control access permissions and privileges.
  • Develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.
  • Ensure the effective operation of storage and archiving procedures.
  • Capacity planning.
  • Communicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.
  • Ensures implicit and explicit business and application requirements can be supported by proposed solutions.
  • Contributor to detailed technical designs and architecture libraries.
  • Providing input to design and implementation plans, and governance to solution delivery teams.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for delegated areas of technical infrastructure.
  • Contributor to the design and continuous improvement of all IT Infrastructure provided to the organisation.
  • Key contributor to delivery of projects into BAU services.

Key Skills of the role:

  • 'Advance' knowledge of all matters related to data and databases, including but not limited to, SQL, storage, data warehouse, data lake, meta, optimisation, (de)normalisation, performance, consistency, concurrency, integrity, redundancy, mirroring, replication, monitoring, scalability, distribution, and clustering.
  • 'Advance' knowledge of 'Saas', 'Paas' and 'Iaas' solution architecture and impact on development.
  • 'Expert' in at least one of the following: Secure Systems design, Public, Private and Hybrid Cloud hosting experience, Desktop & Server OS, Database, OS Support, Virtualisation, Storage / SANs & Backup / Recovery, Security, High Availability / Business Continuity.
  • 'Advance' technical understanding of Microsoft on-premise and cloud-technologies (including Azure, SharePoint, Dynamics and Office 365).
  • Knowledge and experience of utilising at least one best practice service management framework, to develop a value-adding approach to the delivery of IT infrastructure which is pragmatic and appropriate to the organisation.
  • Working towards or holder of expert-level, industry-recognised qualifications in database technologies.

Salary & Benefits:

  • £30,000 - £35,000
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays + 3 days over Christmas period

The salary range/rates of pay is dependent upon your experience, qualifications or training.
