Financial Controller - Cambridge - Shared Services

Robert Half Cambridge have been exclusively retained to work with an International Pharmaceutical business who are recruiting for a Financial Controller to head up their new Shared Services Centre in Cambridge

Overview of role

Day to day duties of The Financial Controller (shared services) will include but not be limited to:

  • Manage the day to day operations of the Central Accounting Team in the UK. This includes the activities of a team of Accountants, AP and AR Assistants and a Process Improvement team
  • Manage short- and long-term operational goals and tactical objectives. Implement processes that are clearly aligned with the business strategy.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial reporting and ensure compliance with any relevant reporting standards.
  • Plan and communicate the reporting cycle, executing it to first-class standards.
  • Ensure the preparation of correct documentation for the annual finance audit and participate in the Audit Committee meetings, ensuring a good level of interaction with both the Audit Chair and Committee itself.
  • Ensure the maintenance and capability of the Finance systems, taking a leadership role in any future financial system upgrades.
  • Play a lead role in the compilation of Board and Shareholder reporting, working closely with the European CFO and FP&A teams.
  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of an effective business control framework, commensurate with a business of this scale.
  • Partner with the Finance Business Partners and Directors to ensure effective delivery of aligned Finance business processes.
  • Act as a point of escalation for Finance business leaders and ensure timely remediation of issues.
  • Develop and report Key Performance Indicators on SLA's with a focus on providing higher quality service as well as transparency to the internal customers.
  • Improve internal control environment to more efficiently monitor transaction risk and financial exposure.
  • Planning of the monthly and annual budgets, as well as, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the central accounting team.
  • Define, analyse, and evaluate key performance indicators
  • Assist with internal and external audits to ensure complete, timely, and accurate responses to information requests
  • Collaborate with the CFO Europe on major projects according to the business needs

The ideal candidate Profile:

  • A qualified Accountant (e.g. ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in a shared service environment
  • Team management experience

The Financial Controller (Shared Services) will play a lead role in building this new finance team. They will provide vital support to the European CFO in the delivery of day-to-day finance activities, will be responsible for establishing and delivering financial accounting, statutory reporting, management reporting, financial control, financial planning and analysis. There will be a requirement to build and create teams, systems and processes from scratch, requiring a hands-on approach from and demonstrating experience of setting up a new central team.

Salary & Benefits

Role of Financial Controller (shared services) is paying up to £120,000 total package
