Robert Half are on the lookout for a payroll and Accounts Assistant to join a fun and lively team based in Cosham. The client is open to an experienced payroller who knows manual payroll processes or some one who has had an exposure to payroll but is keen to develop in this area!


The role will primarily deal with processing all the payroll staff members from start to finish for both our clients UK and USA entities, with accounts duties during non peak payroll time. This role will be directly reporting into the financial accountant.

This means attention to detail and the ability to organise yourself and liaise with various stakeholders is vital for this role.


  • Processing UK payroll for around 400 members of staff on a monthly basis
  • Processing USA payroll for 100 members of staff on a bi weekly basis
  • Processing starters and leavers
  • Updating employee records
  • Closing, reconciliation and querying company time sheets
  • Uploading banking file for payment
  • Processing all post payroll reporting for UK and USA (e.g RTI, P45s, P60s, pensions, advances, attachments of earnings, pay slips and P32s etc)
  • Preparation and posting of the payroll journal
  • Reconciliation of key payroll control accounts for financial accountant sign off
  • Filtering payroll pay queries
  • Gender pay gap reporting
  • Commission calculations and checking

Accounts assistant

  • Processing of expenses, from coding up, checking paperwork, entering into Sage 200 to paying them
  • Processing of company credit cards, from checking coding, receipts to uploading into Sage 200
  • Assistance with purchase ledger duties (e.g matching invoices to purchase orders, entering invoices on Sage 200, filing etc)
  • Assistance in statutory duties (e.g extra information for national statistics/ audit purposes)
  • Adhoc duties when required


  • High attention to detail
  • Can do attitude
  • Good Excel skills
  • Great team player. Happy to roll up sleeves and get stuck in
  • Knowledge of Sage 50 payroll would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of USA payroll practices would be an advantage but not essential
  • Knowledge of Sage 200 would be an advantage
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Great communication skills at all levels
  • Embraces change, used to a fast moving environment
  • Willing to turn their hand to a variety of tasks
  • Flexible, especially at month end
  • Approachable and enthusiastic
  • A thorough knowledge of payroll legislation would be a distinct advantage

  • Salary £20-£25000 dependant on qualification and/or experience

The salary range/rates of pay is dependent upon your experience, qualifications or training.
