Job Description

Associate Lab Support Technician 
Pay: DOE
Location: Thousand Oaks, CA 91320
Length: 1 year contract + possible extension


  • Onsite M-F
  • Ideal candidate- entry level role, candidate must have lab experience and understand basic lab practices. Manager is okay with academic lab experience.


• Assist with laboratory scale synthetic processing of siRNA conjugates

  • Attend training to attain proficiency in the instrumental tools and methods and unit operations used in the small and midscale manufacture of siRNA molecules.
  • Assist with automated solid phase Oligonucleotide synthesis (GE Oligopilot)
  • Assist with anion exchange chromatography development and scale up for siRNA manufacture
  • Assist with UF/DF operations for siRNA platform
  • Assist and carry out siRNA annealing and lyophilization steps

• Assist with high through put solubility screening and crystallization design activities

  • Work closely with chemists and engineers to develop crystallization processes based on collected solubility data
  • Manual and automated weighing/ dispensing of chemical intermediates/ and APIs for high through-put solubility data collection
  • Attend training on the use of walk up analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC, qNMR, KF, XRPD and other techniques
  • Support chemists and engineers with routine sampling and analysis to generate data sets guiding solvent selection / salt selection for the crystallization/ purification of synthetic intermediates and APIs.

• Equipment and instruments management

  • Coordinate with JLL, LAMP and external vendors for preventative maintenance, calibration, and repair service of equipment and instruments (LCs, chillers, etc)
  • Maintain lab equipment and order replacement or add on parts/ accessories as needed
  • Setup and change out, and clean-in-place operations of jacketed reactors for medium scale reactions
  • Facilities co-contact for the synthetic laboratories

• Housekeeping/ Safety:

  • Help ensure general tidiness of synthetic laboratory facilities and adherence to 5S principles
  • Initiate work orders when necessary to remove unnecessary clutter or equipment
  • Clean/decontaminate equipment and hood surfaces contaminated with hazardous materials
  • Manage solid and liquid waste within synthetic laboratories per guidelines

• Maintain Inventory

  • Ordering/ organizing reagents and starting materials
  • Maintain virtual inventory list for the development labs
  • Handle incoming/outgoing shipments of tools, ancillary processing equipment and consumables and chemicals to remote Amgen sites

• Appointed Intermediary

  • Partner with EH&S and JLL to Address Compliance and Safety Concerns


  • High School diploma or GED and 2 years’ experience in laboratory or manufacturing setting OR
  • Associate’s degree and 1 year experience in a regulated environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; attention to detail; technical problem solving skills; and ability to multi-task
  • Trained in basic laboratory safety
  • Ability to assessable/disassemble, operate and understand equipment per procedures
  • Ability to perform basic computer operations, such as ability to navigate in MS office, use email, and complete training using Computer Based Training (CBT)
  • Ability and willingness to work infrequent overtime hours in support of operations
  • Ability to perform manual labor

Preferred Requirements

  • Familiarity with 5S or Operational Efficiency systems
  • Familiarity with Amgen facilities and systems (e.g. Maximo)
  • Working knowledge of small scale pressure reactor systems
