Title: Lab Manager 
Pay: DOE
Location: Cambridge, MA 02138
Length: 2 year contract with possible extension

Job Description:

Amgen is currently seeking lab manager (CW) – lab manager for Attribute Sciences (AS) group in Cambridge, MA. The lab manager will work closely with a team of scientists and will be responsible for general lab maintenance (including participation in 5S activities), oversight of instrument maintenance, organization and storage of samples consumables and corresponding maintenance of inventories to support routine lab operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Housekeeping and lab general lab maintenance
  • Oversee the analytical areas in the lab and ensure general tidiness
  • Oversee management of solid and liquid waste within the AS
  • Daily lab walkthrough to ensure instruments are in appropriate working order
  • Monitoring the Status of Equipment and Instruments
  • Maintain and track equipment calibration / maintenance schedule
  • Calibrate small equipment weekly (pH meter, balance, and SoloVPE)
  • Serves Facilities and Metrology point of contact for the lab
  • Maintain Inventories
  • Maintain Point of Use (POU): ordering and keeping track of supplies including commonly used enzymes, columns and other consumables not covered by ULS
  • Maintain AS equipment inventory and consumable inventory
  • Maintain critical reagents inventory and non-GMP chemical storage
  • Sample management
  • Oversee content organization and police adherence to use of organized space
  • Ensure freezers/fridges are thawed/cleaned appropriately
  • Participate and support safety and 5S team
  • Participate in safety inspections, including recording observations and enter findings in Amgen electronic tracking system
  • Support 5S activities in the next generation lab environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Biochemistry, Biochemical or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience in scientific lab environment (understands processes in a lab and can facilitate the different processes in the lab and lab safety).
  • Strong understanding of physicochemical and bioanalytical methods
  • Scientific lab equipment knowledge, and operational understanding of a wide variety of analytical instrumentation including mass spectrometry, UV, chromatography, etc.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well in diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent attention to details, experience in laboratory work organization and technical documentation

Top Must Have Skill Set:

  • Prior lab experience
  • Strong organization skills
  • Basic knowledge about chemistry and biology (through school and work experience)
