Position Title: Vehicle Engineer - Ford Police Vehicles Division #270098 - 2 Openings
Rate: $44.50/hr 
Location: Dearborn, MI 48124
Duration: 1 year contract + possible extension and / or hire
Up to 5% travel is expected

Must haves:

  • 2 - 5 years of project engineering experience in the automotive field 
  • College GPA of 3.0+
  • BSME from an accredited university 
  • Strong communication and leadership skills (able to coordinate meetings and lead other engineers in project initiatives) 


Position Description:
As a police vehicle engineer, you will be responsible for engineering vehicles to meet extreme conditions. While representing the voice of the customer, engineering responsibilities include defining performance requirements, target setting, vehicle testing and root cause analysis, and verification signoff. Attributes include extreme operating temperatures, vehicle acceleration and handling performance, powertrain and driveline temperature management, and brake performance, brake vacuum management, and brake temperature management. Primary responsibilities:

  • Be the voice of the customer for law enforcement
  • Determine vehicle program status to targets for specific attributes
  • Extreme operating temperatures (hot / cold ambients)
  • Brake vacuum management at high altitudes
  • Vehicle performance metrics (acceleration, braking, handling) and system contributors
  • Collect data and analyze vehicle performance
  • Update vehicle calibrations and diagnose calibration and configuration issues 
  • Lead cross-attribute and cross-functional engineering issue resolution
  • Conduct data acquisition and data analysis (thermocouples, pressure sensors, CAN data channels)
  • Calibrate vehicle and powertrain properties using calibration tools (ATI, DET, PT-Diag)
  • Test drive vehicle to determine vehicle performance including cooling system performance
  • This position is a total vehicle / cross-functional opportunity Some in-state one-day travel


Skills Required:

  • Analytical skills to identify, diagnose and resolve issues
  • Highly motivated individual with a drive for results, leadership mentality and a self-starter attitude Able to handle multiple tasks and understand priority
  • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills and able to put presentation quickly to demonstrate main points
  • Have passion for cars and/or trucks; understand how car and truck systems work or automotive experience


Skills Preferred:

  • Experience for cross-functional Leadership, Project management and Systems Engineering are highly desired


Experience Required:

  • 2-5 years of automotive experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Possession of
  • Valid Current US Driver's License


Education Required:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering Degree with 3.0 above GPA
