Job Summary/Position Objective: Schedules patients for all radiology examinations and add-ons. Primary responsibility will be to schedule MRI and CT examinations. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. Answers phones, schedules appointments and takes messages for patients. Enters lab and radiology orders in Electronic Health Record (EHR) and/or Lab Information System (LIS). Performs a variety of tasks and duties associated with radiology.

Essential Functions: 

    1. Prioritize patient care and services above all other duties.
    2. Assists patients with transportation needs when necessary.
    3. Practice Universal Precautions when appropriate.
    4. Notify department director/manager of any accident or incident to any persons or equipment.
    5. Maintain work area in clean, organized and well-stocked condition.
    6. Assist other areas outside the film library (imaging if applicable and other modalities).
    7. Obtain referrals if needed for coordination of insurance benefits.
    8. Make appointments for patients per protocol, ability to explain procedure prep in an understandable manner to patients.
    9. Cognizant of team responsibilities in a very busy work environment and will tackle group tasks without being told to help.
    10. Verify and update necessary information in the appropriate areas of medical records. Input pertinent demographics, insurance information and appointment data into automated appointment systems and on patient processing documents as needed. Navigate through the PACS and LIS when appropriate.
    11. Refer patients to Credit or Business Office for clarification of insurance coverage as needed.
    12. Refer to Patient & provider Relations for resolution of disputes and/or patient concerns as needed.
    13. Scheduling from all work lists.
    14. Accept delegated tasks from leadership.


Modality Specific Functions:

    1. Produce high quality scheduling as measured by feedback from consulting Radiologists, Director and Technologists and follow established imaging protocols.



Other Duties: 

    1. Serve as mentor to new staff and students as assigned.
    2. Work closely with Director on temporary assignments of a variety of tasks.
    3. Operate department computer systems.
    4. Support and suggest presses improvements and department implications.
    5. Participate in departmental meetings, problem solving groups and in-service educational opportunities on an on going basis.
    6. Scanning and purging film jackets as needed.
    7. Actively participate in Safety Committee Projects.
    8. Assists as a chaperone or assistant for male sonographers and male MRI techs.



Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

  1. Certified in CPR/AED.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Working knowledge of Medical terminology.
  4. Must be detail orientated. Effective organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  5. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, providers and the public.
  6. Must be able to occasionally accommodate flexible hours and shifts pending department needs.
  7. Skill in exercising high degree of initiative, judgement, discretion and decision making.
  8. Ability to work in a fast paced environment while keeping close attention to accuracy with minimal supervision.
  9. Ability to work independently and as a team participant.
  10. Ability to perform data entry into Electronic Health Record, Patient Management System, Laboratory Information System and Radiology PACS.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. At least 6 months recent experience.
  2. Interpret orders and special radiographic studies with minimal or no supervision.
  3. Must have sufficient creativity and independent judgement to modify learned skills to fit individual patient circumstances.
