Job Description

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, M-F, 8-5
Location: Purchasing

Job Summary/Position Objectives:
Supervise the procurement and control of materials, supplies, and equipment. Supervise the storeroom operation, which includes the receiving, requisitioning, and distributing of inventory. Oversee record storage data.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Manage the purchase of material, supplies and equipment.

  2. Manage inventory control of supp.lies through requisition system.

  3. Manage inventory counts of the storeroom.

  4. Maintain inventory of Clinic documents.

  5. Research new products for better quality and pricing.

  6. Obtain bid quotes for the best price.

  7. Assist physicians and other departments in selecting and purchasing of items.

  8. Supervise and evaluate purchasing personnel.

  9. Review purchasing contracts and submit contracts to Administration for approval.

  10. Establish goals and objectives for the purchasing department.

  11. Ensure necessary protocols and procedures are in place for the optimal functioning of the purchasing department.

  12. Responsible for organization and cleanliness of warehouse; responsible for items stored at warehouse.

Other Duties: 

  1. Assist in preparation of the operational and capitol budgets.

  2. Provide back-up for purchasing staff positions.

  3. Prepare analysis as requested by the Administrator, Associate Administrator or Chief Finance and Operations Officer.

  4. Perform related work as required.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

  1. Four years of purchasing experience.
  2. Effective communication skills-written and oral. Able to spell correctly and display good writing skills.
  3. Ability to work effectively with staff, vendors, external agencies, and managers.
  4. Knowledge of material management practices involved with purchasing, distribution, and storage.
  5. Skill gathering and analyzing information.
  6. Working knowledge of computerized databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and purchasing programs.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field. Demonstrated experience will substitute for education.
  2. Purchasing experience in the health care industry.
  3. Knowledge of medical terminology.
