Job Description

Sequel Youth Services of Red Rock seeks an Academic Director.

Our residential treatment center helps each struggling teen in our care find the worth and value in themselves. We employ individuals dedicated to positively influencing these children in working through history of poor self-esteem, poor coping skills, lack of anger management skills, anger, depression, self-harm, drug/alcohol abuse, poor school performance, abuse/neglect, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the academic schedule and curriculum and when needed revise, update, or expand.
  • Develop, propose, and administer the academic budget.
  • Maintain all academic facilities, classrooms, library, computer lab, equipment, and materials used by and/or issued to the academic department to ensure for accountability and care.
  • Oversee accreditation of the Education Program (i.e. application, self-studies, maintenance of standards for re-certification, etc.).
  • Responsible for creating an atmosphere and culture of care to promote excellence and efficiency.
  • Oversee the day-to-day program operations in partnership with all other Director’s at multiple levels: admissions, treatment, discharge/aftercare planning, and student satisfaction.
  • Manage and delegate monthly Academic Calendar of Events (i.e. field trips, service projects, award ceremonies, graduations, trainings, teacher workshops, supply inventory and order, etc.).
  • Be prepared and participate in one-on-one meetings and various group meetings to teach, train, guide, mentor, coach, and hold staff and/or students accountable using approved program processes (i.e. Treatment team, director, teacher meeting, parent weekend, etc.).
  • Work as part of a team to support and follow the Program Vision, Policies, and Procedures along with all student’s treatment plan implementations.
  • Will maintain professional conduct in dress, language, and actions.
  • Maintain active certifications/tests in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/first aid, Safe Crisis Management (SCM), Positive Peer Culture (PPC), Suicide Prevention Training, Tuberculosis (TB) test, and attend other trainings required by Sequel and State Licensing.
  • Use the Certifications and Trainings with students to model desired outcomes and if needed prevent students from harming self, others, or in extreme cases property.
  • Communicate information needed to assist the staff with student’s needs and treatment effectively and efficiently. This includes checking program issued e-mail daily and responding/sending important information in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to and ensure compliance with all regulations and licensing in regards to policies and procedures, compliance standards as they appear in the Employee Handbook, Sequel Youth and Family Services Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan, the Utah State Office of Licensing Code of Conduct and Client Rights, and other policies as they are presented and signed.
  • Adhere to the policy and practices in creating, editing, transmission, storage, and disposal of all Protected Health Information (PHI).

Education Required: Master’s Degree in Education or equivalent years of teaching experience in working with high-risk youth.

Experience Required: Have good organization and management skills, be highly organized, good communication skills in writing and speaking.

Credential Required: Valid Utah teaching credential – Preferred Administrative Endorsement / Credential or the ability to receive within a year and a half.
