Job Description



             Position Title:  Certified Nursing Assistant/Med Aide               Reports To:  Nurse                   

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist nurse to ensure that all students meet with the facilities physician as indicated by law and accreditation standard. 
  • Assist in scheduling of students for various medical checkups and treatment.
  • Administer medication to residents.
  • Transport residents to appointments when necessary.
  • Help ensure correct staff/student ration during appointments.
  • Facilitate correct medication count.
  • Assist with new resident intake and discharge.
  • Observe and report changes in condition of residents to supervisor.
  • Maintain and submit required documents by agency policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship among interdisciplinary teams by communicating information pertinent to staff and student development, responding to requests and participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Help identify and implement student care requirements and establish a healthy and compassionate environment.
  • Promote student's independence by establishing student care goals, teaching student and family to understand medical condition, medication and self-care skills, and answering questions.
  • Help resolve student medical problems and needs by utilizing multi-disciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintain student confidence and protect medical operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Provide the protection of students and staff by developing and interpreting infection control policies and protocols, and enforcing medication administration, storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
  • Handle the documentation of student care services by charting in the student and department records.
  • Maintain documentation of student care services by monitoring confidential information processing and auditing medical department records.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing a personal network, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Provide in-service training as necessary.

Education and Experience:

  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant license to practice in the required state (South Dakota). 
  • A current Certified Medication Aide in the required state (South Dakota). 
  • Must be able to pass background checks.
  • It is an essential function of the position that the staff member must be capable and proficient in the area of physical restraint when and/or if necessary.
