Job Description

Bernalillo Academy has an immediate opening for an Executive Director. Bernalillo Academy, located in Albuquerque, NM, is a sub-acute residential treatment center that specializes in treating boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 17 with Autism Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities and other Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. The Executive Director provides leadership and day-to-day management to assure high-quality services and directs the performance improvement and quality management programs to assist the leadership, medical/clinical staff, and Quality Council in designing, planning, and implementing comprehensive management programs.  The Executive Director will also be responsible to carry out risk management functions for the facility. 

Job Duties Include:

  • Supervise performance improvement and quality management activities on a daily basis and assure that action is taken as authorized by organization policies and procedures.
  • Budget and fiscal management.
  • Participate in monthly operating report meetings.
  • Receive and review department/service performance measures and documentation to evaluate performance improvement activities and coordinate reports of findings to the Quality Council and Governing Board.
  • Review Shift Reports, Restraint Reports, Incident Reports, surveys and resident grievances to determine the presence or absence of patterns, trends, and/or opportunities for improvement in resident care outcomes, as well as the appropriateness of corrective action.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate committee and department/service meetings in which performance improvement and quality management activities occur.
  • Perform risk management activities to determine scope of problem, conduct internal investigations, and make recommendations to management regarding risk reduction and response to critical incidents.
  • Process Resident Grievances and make a determination regarding the violation of resident rights and report findings to VP of Operations.
  • Oversee Utilization Review activities in determining continued stay criteria.
  • Serve as a liaison with referral sources to assist in developing and maintaining ongoing working relationships and dialogue regarding the efficacy program services.
  • Interact effectively and build relationships both within the Sequel community and among the systems that supports Sequel’s mission.
  • Assist in providing training and identifying staff training needs.
  • Manage and supervise all departments to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Ensure that all licenses, certifications, and accreditations are current and being followed.
  • Perform assessments of residents to determine eligibility and identify presenting problems to be addressed.
  • Maintain a safe, secure therapeutic environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree preferred in Social or Behavioral Sciences, Human Development, and/or Education. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • 5 + years of experience in a leadership role in a residential mental health facility serving youth.
  • Experience with and current knowledge of Joint Commission and other governing body requirements and regulations.
  • The selected candidate must possess exceptional verbal/written communication skills and computer skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to adjust work schedule to meet needs of program.
