Program Overview

Norris Academy is a residential treatment facility for children and youth between the ages of 5 and 1eight.  Currently Norris Academy has 43 licensed beds for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder or another Neurodevelopmental Disorder. 

Job Definition:

Special Education Teacher must have the ability to create and implement effective and engaging lesson plans in the classroom to students with special needs on a variety of sbility levels.  Teachers must be able to meet the unique educational needs of all students.  Teacher must have effective classroom management skills and demonstrate an enthusiasm and competence for working with special needs students.

Job Requirements:

  • Create and implement lesson plans
  • Teach to a variety of students on a different ability and grade levels
  • Provide effective classroom management skills
  • Attend educational meetings (IEP, Eligibility, professional development, teacher meetings, etc.
  • Work in a collaborative environment with all staff at Norris Academy
  • Represent the educational department in a professional manner
  • Complete educational testing on students
  • Evaluate students educational needs and plan curriculum accordingly
  • Process a high volume of paperwork and reporting efficiently and effectively

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a current Tennessee teaching license
  • Priority consideration will be given to candidates with a SPED certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education
  • Must meet all other requirements for hire per Norris Academy's policies
