SUMMARY OF JOB CONTENT

This key position is accountable for the effective and efficient coordination and execution of maintenance operations necessary to maintain all production process equipment, in order to, ensure the most efficient, optimal and safe production operations possible.

Key Accountabilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Analyzes maintenance requirements of all equipment in the plant, develops maintenance guidelines and plans and schedules all maintenance operations in a manner that assures optimal production. • Directs the work of Maintenance Supervisors and sets priorities as necessary to utilize maintenance resources effectively and efficiently. • When necessary, evaluates and selects external technical service providers and suppliers to support maintenance operations and negotiates prices, services and conditions with them. Supervises the delivery of required services. • Ensures that all maintenance work is performed in a timely manner and at the optimal level in terms of safety, quality, productivity and costs. • Ensures that maintenance costs are properly accounted for and the maintenance budget adhered to. • Improves plant equipment reliability by the development and implementation of an effective Preventive and Predictive Maintenance program. • Works with Purchasing Department to plan and coordinate spare parts availability for equipment and installations and defines stock levels to ensure a sufficient supply and stock keeping of these parts to guarantee an immediate supply of parts if required. • Analyzes and proposes requirements for investments together with superiors and participates in the installation and integration of new equipment. • Establishes and maintains a library of service and user manuals. • As required, computes, records and complies data for maintenance costs, quality and safety and presents to the • Management Group on a monthly basis. Tracks department KPIs and reports to corporate leadership on a monthly basis.
Safeguards company property and ensures that all tools and equipment in use are in good, safe operating condition. • Recommends manpower levels, skills, crafts and training for maintenance personnel. • Provides leadership to immediate subordinates and ensures that Supervisors are consistent and fair in their dealings with their reports. • Ensures maintenance personnel utilize proper work methods, practices and adhere to specifications. • Ensures that maintenance work areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition. • Directs and supervises the observance of all safety, health and environmental regulations and policies in area of responsibility. • Takes disciplinary action as required and resolves grievances within established policies and union contract. • Performs other duties as required that are in support of the maintenance department’s goals.

• At least a 2 year college degree or equivalent (4 year Engineering degree preferred) plus 5 or more years of related work and first line supervision experience or a HS diploma or GED plus 15 or more years of related work and supervision experience. • Knowledge of SAP Maintenance module. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Word and Excel. • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively present information when required and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. • Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks concurrently. • Ability to perform well in time crunched situations and meet deadlines. • Ability to work well on own with minimal supervision and make competent decisions. • Proven track record of taking initiative, working well with a team and solving problems with minimal supervision. • Experience in a high temperature/high abrasion environment such as steel, cement, graphite, mining, etc. • Experience in a multiple shift, multiple department union environment. • Knowledge of vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography and other predictive technologies. • Must have excellent organizational skills. • Must have strong supervisory skills, including the ability to motivate, coach and discipline. • Must be able to handle situations with poise, understanding and tact when dealing with others. • Familiar with LEAN Philosophies, Six Sigma and 5S.

This position works in a loud plant environment with some trips (1% to 25%) to affiliate SGL Carbon manufacturing facilities, vendors or customers. Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises one Stock Clerk and two Maintenance Supervisors who supervise 17 or more maintenance personnel consisting of electricians, millwrights and oilers.
