Job Description

With minimum supervision,sets up and operates various types of machine tools. Diversified
work. Ordinary tolerances. Performs necessary hand operations

Key Accountabilities
  • Follow all safety procedures and works in a safe manner.
  • Read and follow work order instructions.
  • Use Kaba Bensing terminal.
  • Machine setup without supervision.
  • Operate machine to accurately produce parts within tolerances with little or no supervision.
  • Change tooling with no supervision.
  • Operate all lifting devices.
  • Complete first article inspection forms.
  • Inspect parts as machined.
  • Select and return materials at staging area.
  • Sharpen tools as required.
  • Assist with setup for other shop employees.
  • Use of ESS terminal.
  • Create new production procedures as requested.
  • Train other employees in production and safety policies.
  • Perform daily maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and trigonometry.
  • Perform basic shop floor packing.
  • Work independently with no supervision.
  • Keep work area clean.
  • Perform special duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Written and verbal communication skills, organizational and strong analysis/problem
    solving skills are very important.
  • High level decision making skills, ability to work well without close supervision, and a high level of mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to read a tape measure within 1/64”
  • Complete understanding of all hand measuring devices.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions ( addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry ) .
  • Ability to convert fractions to decimals and English to metric.
  • Ability to read and understand complex blueprints.
  • Prior experience operating fork lifts or successful completion of fork truck training.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience machining graphite preferred. Prior CNC Machining experience required.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is also required to walk, talk, hear, and use hands to handle or feel. This position requires close vision (clear vision at 20” or less), distance vision(clear vision at 20 feet or more), depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is routinely required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally must lift weights up to 50 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time must lift up to and more than 100 pounds. At times required to stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. Required to communicate in person and via phone. Constant use of hands to grasp, lift, move and write required.
Also must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

This position works in a plant environment.. This position is frequently exposed to working near moving mechanical parts,airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and at a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud (i.e., metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving equipment) and may require hearing protection.
