Job Description

With minimum supervision, sets up and operates various types of machine tools. Diversified work. Ordinary tolerances. Performs necessary hand operations

Key Accountabilities
  • Follows all safety procedures and works in a safe manner.
  • Read and follow work order instructions.
  • Use Kaba Bensing terminal.
  • Machine setup and change tooling without supervision.
  • Operates machine to accurately produce parts within tolerances.
  • Operates all lifting devices.
  • Completes first article inspection forms.
  • Inspects parts as machined.
  • Selects and returns material at staging area.
  • Sharpen tools as required.
  • Assist with setup for other shop employees.
  • Create new production procedures as requested.
  • Train other employees in production and safety policies.
  • Performs daily maintenance of equipment.
  • Performs math functions including trigonometry.
  • Performs basic shop floor packing.
  • Requires little or no supervision.
  • Keeps work area clean.
  • Performs special duties as assigned
  • Use of ESS terminal.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to read a tape measure within 1/64”
  • Complete understanding of all hand measuring devices.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry).
  • Ability to convert fractions to decimals and metric to English.
  • Ability to read and understand complex blueprints.
  • Prior experience operating forklifts or successful completion of forklift training.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, organizational and strong analysis/problem solving skills.
  • High-level decision making skills, ability to work well without close supervision, and a high level of mathematical aptitude.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Over 2/3 of the day is spent standing, using hands to finger, handling, feeling, talking or hearing. Between 1/3 to 2/3 of the day is spent walking and reaching with hands and arms. Under 1/3 of the day is spent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Up to ten pounds must be lifted over 2/3 of the day. Up to 25 to 50 pounds must be lifted. Between 1/3 to 2/3 of the day. Up to and more than 100 pounds must be lifted under 1/3 of the day.

Close vision (clear vision at 20” or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position is in a plant environment, spending over 2/3 of the day working near moving mechanical parts and around fumes or airborne particles. This position also involves working in outdoor weather conditions and has a risk of electrical shock for under 1/3 of the day. The typical noise level for this job is loud (i.e. metal can manufacturing department, large earth-moving
equipment)
