Job Description

The PMA Mechanical Engineer will be the interface between the customer technical support and the manufacturing processes. Will coordinate and participate in reverse engineering, design, release and certification of mechanical components and assemblies. Perform reverse engineering analysis of inspection and testing results to specify dimensions and appropriate tolerances and materials for component parts. Use knowledge of aircraft structure, materials and properties, design criteria, loading condition and processes (e.g. non-destructive testing, corrosion prevention, fatigue). Create test plans, procedures, and test reports as part of the component development process and compliance to FAA PMA or DoD requirements. Support the Engineering Department’s objectives with regards to design requirements of NPD and current manufacturing processes by means of design, BOMs & Routings, analysis, coordination of work efforts and assigned tasks regarding the implementation of a new programs into full manufacturing. Solve material & process related issues through existing methods or by developing new methods.


Key Accountabilities

•Give technical presentations to staff and customers as required as the liaison between technical sales and manufacturing ensuring concerted actions are achieved.
•Research, evaluate, and test mechanical products and systems.
•Design production tooling, qualification test fixtures and assembly jigs.
•Develop 3D models and drawings for component and manufacturing processes.
•Analyze customer’s digital product definitions, drawings, specifications and PO requirements for implementation into the Insulation manufacturing process, provide technical support and lead engineering efforts with the manufacturing departments and customer.
•Develop and design substantiation packages for FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval applications.
•Develop and conduct research studies regarding process improvement and cost reduction.
•Prepare fabrication strategy and instructions with detailed illustration which prescribe a logical sequence of action in clear and concise language that can be used both by the manufacturing personnel for production and the customer for hardware acceptance.
•Lead Manufacturing Engineering Groups through development parts to validate the new manufacturing process.
•Work with machine groups in programming to support mills, presses and other industrial machinery.
•Support QA department and vendors regarding drawing interpretation, manufacturing methods, inspection methods, etc.


Job Requirements


Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or Industrial Science related to the aircraft/aerospace industry with a minimum of 7 years of mechanical engineering experience and/or experience in advanced material thermal technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•To perform this job successfully an individual should have working knowledge of engineering software (e.g. CATIA ) MS Office and MRP systems.

•Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Manufacturing: Tool function, part development, bagging techniques, autoclave curing, trimming and inspection.
Ability to troubleshoot process development trials.
Ability to create a Bill of Materials (BOM).
•Experience with Boeing and Lockheed qualification processes is a plus.

•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
•While on duty, Protective Equipment provided for this position must be used.
